Hey all,

tried searching for a while but couldnt turn up any definitive answers......

I wish to install a Bosch 044 pump in my R33, it's advertised as an external pump, but is it possible to do it intank? If anyone has done it or knows of a DIY thread on it it would be great!

yeh its possible i installed mine about 3 weeks ago..bosch 044 mounted intank in an r33 gtst

its not hard at all, just read those threads on how to get it out, but you dont need to buy any extra fuel hose or anything like that. i needed to get a fitting to replace the one on the top of the pump from pirtek which cost me $48 all up and a 3" hose clamp to secure it to the standard pump cradle..also needed a fitting machined from pirtek so you can use the standard fuel pick-up/filter on the bottom of your 044. if you want part numbers i can dig them up tonight..also to hook the power and earth wires to the pump from memory was a 5mm and 6mm fitting.

Now im gonna be a real pain in the arse!

If i decide to go the route of a surge tank, do i simply run the fuel return line to the tank, that way the surge tank wouldnt be under pressure, or do i just return it to the surge tank ready for use again?

use std pump as the lift pump.

depending on how many fitings on your surge tank as to how you do it.

i used the return from the engine into the surge tank, and fed the overflow on the surge tank back into the fuel retun line on the fuel tank cap.

less mucking about that way i found

Righto, i get ya! If i can fit the 044 snugly intank ill go that way, to save on noise, etc., as it will be mostly a street car.

A few peeps on here have been saying that 044's dont come with a check valve standard, but i can clearly see a spring inside the outlet fitting, im assuming thats it?

yes they have a non return valve standard, but its to suit the wrong fitting.

go into pirtek and get one like what i have used and it works a treat.

yep, come with a banjo style check valve .

bout 50 for a screw in check valve, plus the push on fitting it will need.

Sorry mate i must have thrown the receipt out so i dont know about the part numbers but as someone said just go into your pirtek store and tell them what your doing..as you can see from that photo all you need to do is clamp the pump onto the cradle, widen the gap at the bottom of the cradle so the pump sits a bit lower, cut off the little metal fuel line that originally connected to the standard pump so its not in the way, and use the standard fuel line to connect to the top of your new pirtek fitting..
