I don't see the point of Stainless steel system for a turbo car. (Except for the mufflers). Mild steel FTW and the price.

I'd get either the CES or BOS dump, then go down to Brooky Mufflers or exhaust place of your choice to get a 3" or larger custom system fitted - prolly cheaper than a bolt on system - and better fit.

Is anybody using the AM-PERFORMANCE split dump/front pipe??if so what do you think of them??they seem to look like a very well made peice of kit, the pipe that goes inside the turbo is a bit wierd looking but i can definatly see the benifits of it, i wonder if it would make it any harder to fit?any opinions would be great

IMHO, I think CES are making overly exaggerated claims, esp for a Skyline.

S15's have tiny exhausts so they can maybe make that claim, but skyline stock exhausts arent as small, they are about 2,5" (R34 GTT anyways), so to make a claim of 40rwkw on a Skyline is pretty out there.

Furthermore, do you think that CES really put their systems through proper flow and backpressure tests, I would imagine that just like any other exhaust shop, they just simply make an exhaust, test that it simply to ensure that it works okay, and then make design templates. Note: they use Magnaflow mufflers and do not design their own so other than the piping, I dont think theres anything overly special to warrant the high price.

Get a BOS importing split dump, hi flow cat, and japanese cat back and you wont regret it.

The only reason why I recommend this is because of the sound factor, japs catbacks "usually" have a better sound. Go for a Kakimoto or Fujitsubo and you wont regret it. Note: if you want something quiet, get an oval muffler, do not get a cannon.

Also, keep in mind that mild steel is much cheaper and easier to repair in the event that you bend the piping or something, mild steel will be harder and hence cost more for you to repair. From what I hear, they also dont make the usual tingling sound.

Is one of those meant to be stainless?

Shoebox --> I'd just go for the xforce mild steel system. I'm pretty tight with my money.

I'll be getting one some time in the near future.

yea, i've decided to go for a full xforce mild steel. getting it fitted tomorrow, probably will go for a dyno as well. can't wait to see how it goes! i'll think about better systems when it dies on me or if i really hate it... then you'll see an almost brand new xforce system on sale here :)

poor university students gotta close one eye and grit their teeth when it comes to money... but at least we learnt something!

Hey mate

Did you end up buying the xforce system? if so did you buy the full turbo back system or just the catback system??

Is it a good system?how does it sound, let us know what you think of it, post some pics aswell :P

I'd say the claim is correct, my friend and I both have the full CES system. He had the advantage of running his on a dyno before and after with just the exhaust and no other mods. It went from 139rwkw to 176rwkw on an auto R34 GTT

Have a run down to the CES workshop and tell me if you think it looks "just like any other exhaust shop" they put a 1000 times more effort into designing sytems and making them actually sound tough, not just the average sound you get from a Jap brand.

Yea, the full turboback system. I'll post some pics up when i get my car tomorrow, with the dyno "before-and-after" results.

(it's still stuck at the workshop...)

im running the am performance split dump from bos importing. also got a wide body cat from him (catco) had 137 with cat back. then 152 with dump and hi flo cat. only problem was it didnt quit fit properly. one of the flanges was off by a few degrees so my muffler is slightly twisted at the end. mine didnt look quit the same as the one pictured though. the flange for the waste gate was only half a pipe welded on, if you know what i mean. my mechanic had to bend some pipes that was for the air con i think, to get it in.

so i only gained 15 kw from the dump and hi flo which is a bit dissapointing, but that was my car you may have different results.

Okay my car's back!

Kinda dissapointing because i think my car's running too rich at the moment. Gotta tune it...

Before the exhaust, it was this:

Here's the photo of the muffler taken by my handphone. It's not a very impressive photo, but to give you an estimate of its size, my motorola v3x (which is 99mm according to motorola) can fit in nicely if i try to put in using the wider side with about 1mm allowance on both sides.

Contrary to how it looks, the muffler seems like stainless steel (at least to me). It's the x-force cannon muffler.

It's the x-force mild steel turbo back exhaust system with 3.5" cat back.

The sound's only average when you're stuck in the peak hour traffic in the city (imagine going up to 4krpm for 20 minutes where you're at 1-2krpm most of the time), but once you hit the highway you're in heaven ^_^

Oh well. It's cheap. I would have went CES or something if i had the cash but... this is good enough :P

Cost: $954.55 fitted at Mercury Motorsports (Brisbane)

Edit: Put photo of muffler up.

Although you were hoping for more, it's still not a bad improvement from where you were. I still think your boost is a little low though. I was picking something up from Mercury today, and if I'm not mistaken your car's an auto right? Auto's make less power then manuals from the factory don't they? That could be a factor too.

Yup, mine was at Mercury today, and it's an auto. I was thinking that could be the case too... stock manuals go 250hp at the flywheel and autos are only at 245hp.

Next step is to tune the ecu, fit boost controller and replace intercooler... :P

I got a 3in cat back made from a local exhaust place with an oval muffler - nice and deep note, has a nice burble on deceleration

Going to buy a split sump pipe and hi flow cat and fit it myself

Should cost under 1k all up

Okay my car's back!

Looks good. All you need now is a boost controller of some sort. Whack it up to 10-11 psi and enjoy. If you want, it's rich as hell so an SAFC will lean that out and give you some more power too.

Yup, i was thinking of doing that! The mechanic recommended fitting a tuned R32 ECU rather than to put an AFC and an ITC though... i'm going to wait and see how much it would cost first.

Sidetracking a bit... but would a tuned stock ECU (which fixes the richness + removes speed limit) be better, or an AFC Neo + SITC + speed limit remover be better?

seeing as its auto.. maybe a dr drift remap??

oh yer.. i make all my own exhausts.. funny enough silvia's exhaust is quieter than a 3inch turbo back system on a r33 gtst :)

not very good pic but you get the idea..

twin 3inch dump/fronts 4inch in/out metalcat(5inch bod) jun 3.5inch muffler

it has a very very nice note!

    • The second part yes, the first part about easy VE calculation is something I've seen a few people talk about online.
    • You 100% could do that, would save money on a gym membership lol. But yeah, getting a cordless orbital sander will feel priceless coming from doing it manually.  Good luck with it mate
    • I initially was going to do the whole car with a block then realised, it would be a bigger monster of the job 😂 I guess that's all part of the learning process. I appreciate all that advice, I think I got a good idea on how to tackle this whole job.
    • I admire your efforts with the scuff pad.  As a mere mortal, I use this for the baulk of my sanding work- https://sydneytools.com.au/product/milwaukee-m18bos125-0-18v-li-ion-cordless-125mm-5-random-orbital-sander-skin-only Yes you can easily create a low spot while sanding. There are 2 types of filler, 1 part of 2 part. The 2 part filler will get used for large corrections and the 1 part filler will get used for pin holes and areas that only need slight filling.  Depending on how zealous you are with the sander (very easy to do with a power tool) or if you are chasing rust etc, yes those low spots will need to get filled or you will end up with a very obvious defects in the paint.  Using the guide coat and large sanding block, high and low areas will be revealed (watch youtube videos for a good visual on this). Its up to you if you think its worth the effort to make the car completely flat before you spray it (you make it flat by filling the low areas).  At the end of the day, it comes down to time. The end result comes from the level of prep put in to the car. If you want a perfect result, you have to put in the time during the prep stage or else it will be impossible to achieve a perfect result during the spraying process.
