Muffler with silencer

Anyone have those trick mufflers that come with a removable silencer?

Im interested to know peoples experiences with them, how

effective and easy to use....

I have been wanting an adjustable exhaust for ages :D

The other option is getting another less restrictive (loud) muffler made up which matches the existing flange, but this would require

undoing three bolts every time.

"Adjustable" exhausts are illegal. They need to be welded shut.

Mine has a central removeable silencer (one bolt holds it in).

It's not bad with it in, bit droney though. And it whistles/screams as you hit it.

With it out, you can't hold a conversation, listen to the radio.

yeah I've got one as well. Fits into my cannon muffler to reduce the noise. Without it its impossibly loud to drive. Though the car actually sounds quite good when you floor it, it is abit restrictive but on the flipside without it I think it would attract too much attention from the wrong ppl.

whats the point of driving around with a silencer in a loud exhaust? if you want loud get a big exhaust if you dont then dont get a big exhaust, its not rocket science. or just get another resonator put in (thats assuming you already have one).

My car came with a Kakimoto exhaust already fitted. It has a removable baffle (one bolt holds it in place).

Most of the time I keep it in - without it the car is a little too loud (especially considering how close I live to the local cop station!):)

Still, I think it is a great idea - you can have mean/loud for trackdays and stuff and quiet for the long runs...:)

isnt it obvious, your right its not rocket science :shake:

so i can have both!!!

cause i dont need bacon aggravation during the week, but want to hear the sound bouncing off tunnel walls on the weekend :)

think ill just get a new muffler thats stays just under 90db

better yet, ive heard rumours of a place in sydney that has made a power adjustable silencer that goes somewhere between the cat and muffler and can be flicked between silenced and open from the cabin. very good idea. i want one!

My friend has an APEXI exhaust on his R33. It has one mutha ***a of a large muffler tip.

It has the butterfly in the exhaust and you can pull it or push it, to make it louder or quieter.

Once you pull it to make it quieter, it is signifficantly quieter but you also loose power. I don't think it even comes on boost.

Its a good idea now, because the cops are trying to crack down on exhaust noise here. Doing stops on thursday nights

Anyway i dont need, took my non straight through rusted muffler

off today...

with the 3inch turbo back exhaust with just cat and resonator

attached it wasnt as loud as i thought it would be so should be still relatively quiet with new straight through muffler :P
