hey guys... i was just wonderin if anyone has the know how on how to replace radiator fans in a rb20det r32...

mine is pretty much cracked, nearly all the way thru so it could potentially fly off whenever it gives way... sought of what needs to be done to replace the fan

also... i was wondering if anyone knows how to change how the fan sort of works... cause the fan is nearly always on when u accellerate and it makes my car sound really bad... and i was told it can give it a decent power gain when u change to something like on when it needs to be on and not always on...

There should be 4 10mm nuts on the fan, remove them, and your fan should kinda slide off, but you will need a little manouvering to take it out from the shroud without demolishing your radiator. I did mine when i was installing cooler piping on my 32, its easy to do.

Umm the radiator fan is a clutch type. If you want to change it so u can turn it on and off by a switch inside the car, youd have to replace it with electric fans i beleive. Unless someone knows otherwise?

Oh and if its making a noise while accelerating other than the fact your fan is cracked, you should possibly check that your belt is tight.

by the sounds of it the fan clutch might be siezed and thats why its noisey. this will also cause the fan to crack due to overspeeding it, make sure you change it soon, or else it will become a bonnet emblem!!

hey thnx guys... ill give it a shot after i go find a fan...

but yer i think the belts are fine... they dont seem to be squeeking... but its the fan that comes on everytime i accellerate... apparently u can get a timing system in the engine bay that controlls the fan... a friend has done it but didnt explain it so i gotta whip him about it... he has a Lancer turbo so he did it to his...

your mates lancer being fwd will have thermo fan/s.

he probably has a relay hooked up to his ignition and a thermo switch that supplies it with power once the engine (coolant) reaches a certain temperature.

would definitely change your fan asap as my mate's (rb25) went through his radiator. wasn't fun.

there is an ongoing debate as to whether a clutch/engine fan is better/worse than a thermo/electric fan setup.

i personally use two 12in thermo fans run through a relay using the stock radiator temp sensor.
