I had a problem with the ignition timing on my stag which led me to trying to get my ECU into diagnostic mode. (I still intend to post the definitive guide to timing but I've yet to time my car, it's showing 40 degrees of advance but it's not pinging and probably closer to 15 to 20 in reality). but I digress. This is what I have in my car. see pic. From what I can find http://www.mines-wave.com/ it appears to remove the boost limit, 180kph speed limit and generally alter the ignition and fuel curves. I thought it was just a plug-in chip on the standard ECU, but the case doesn't appear to have the little screw associated with diagnostic mode(s) that the Nissan ones have. The case also has two pieces of mines anti-tamper tapes on it. It doesn't say VX-ROM on it anywhere either but I assume that is what it is.

Does anybody have some hard and fast facts on this box?

Is it a modded standard ECU or a dedicated Mines unit?

thanking you in advance.

i think the mines ecu is a replacement for the factory ecu and is a custom map designed to take advantage of mines tuning skills as a generic map the main problem you will have with this is that i dont think it can be reset and the map is locked and designed specifically for japanese fuel. on its own it will probably be a bit rough but as brendan suggested with some additional bits and pieces you ay be able to make it work .

maybe sydneykid will be able to shed some more light on it

Yeah I had about 5min of excitement thinking it may be programmable but it is a ROM program. Their website seems to have a stage 1 setup only for the stagea. even then it's for the series 3. But it's working nicely on my K&N and catback series 1. The boost sits at 5psi till 3500rpm then 8psi after that so they haven't just upped the boost. I am still working on the timing though.

He already has with his thread on the jaycar fuel controller and boost controller. I should be able to do the same with this. My only caveat is if mines got rid of the boost limit and the solenoid fails closed with the jaycar boost controller installed, there is nothing to stop the turbo from boosting until something gives.

    • I did not go to GTR Festival. It's quite a long drive and the car wasn't dialed in yet. I also wanted to see how the racing portion went before going. From what I can tell the classes were not heads up, index, or bracket - just whoever has the quickest ET wins. Never heard of that sort of thing before and maybe some people like it but it's not my cup of tea. I don't suspect I'll go if that is how the racing is done. I did get the car out three times and had issues each time. Some were my error - haven't raced the car in over two years - and others were parts. Had trouble getting the clutch to slip correctly and remembering how it was set up in the Haltech. Broke some drivetrain parts as well that couldn't be fixed in a couple days to get back out. Season definitely didn't end the way I wanted but at least the bearings are still fine! Not a fleck of material in the filter. Really hoping next year is the year I can actually test this car properly.
    • find it funny everyone claims different fuel chains, do different things with their fuel blah blah blah. We don't have that many fuel terminals in Australia. The fuel tanker trucks drive into the terminal, fill up, and drive directly to the service station and dump out. The majority of fuel you get, is coming out of the same terminals. The variation is actually at the individual service stations and how good their tanks are, as well as how much turn over they actually have. Older fuel stations, that haven't had their tanks replaced are going to end up with the worst fuel. Also a lot of older stations have shit design, and shit maintenance, and end up with more water absorption into the tank. This is when you then get a bad batch of fuel. Other shit things happen, like tanker drivers have a f**k up, and starting to unload the wrong compartment on their truck into the wrong tank.
    • Yeah go with that one
    • This one?? In other news: I cannot tell the difference between my red MX5 with the silver grey hard top......... and the Ferrari 599XX EVO, they might as well be twins, well.......apart from the big wang hanging off the back of the Ferrari...🤔🤣, without the wing they are identical
