Hey Hey,

Just curious to know how many ppl have actually had a crash whilst at a track day? (major/minor)

Im in the process of getting my gear together for a track event myself, and have been wondering if accidents are common hence expensive :)

From looking around the forums i havent really seen anything, so im guessing its quite rare?

....Bonus points for any pics too! :)

In Vic I could name....

Roy (R32 GTST)

Adzmax (R34 GTT)

Emre (R33 GTR)

RowdyR32 (R32 GTR)

RMPGTR (R33 GTR)

Scotsman (R3 GTR)

Black Viper (R33 GTST)

Al (R33 GTST)

clayoth (R34 GTR)

And they are just the skylines I can think of.

Others from here include

BBGTR (STI)

wokka wokka (WRX)

pomme joe (EVO VIII)

So it happens. I have video of Rowdy's off along with another WRX from that day >_<

PS - if your on this list and want to be removed let me know. :P

i'm certainly no track day veteran, but i have seen more wrx's have more accidents at the track than skylines

the awd factor must give some people a sense of confidence that the car will be good in a spin out situation

quite odd

oh jeeze i didnt think there would be so many...!

What are some of the examples? ...we talking about hitting the kitty litter and damaging front bumper or are we talking the type that requires a tow truck ride home?

The only time I have taken a WRX for a proper drive in the hills I noticed that if you backed off hard it did a very nasty squirmy thing. So if you made a mistake going fast and backed off too hard you could easily crash. I think it was all those diffs fighting each other

If you were at the recent SAU Eastern Creek track day; you would've witnessed an explosion :) Car was not even towed home... was just left there like a burnt out chip!

This I think was an isolated incident and does not happen often.

Is there some sort of insurance u can get for ur car? (Although i highly doubt it! :))

Shannons have a race car extension, but when I asked about this they said it wasn't really meant for Skylines (more classics, etc) and I would be looking at a total premium of around $5k (with a max coverage of $20k).

Don't let any of this put you off however. There are heaps of people that haven't had any issues. But the advice is still not to put yourself in a situation where you can't be without the car you take to the track for a period of time. Even if it's 12months + as is often the case if something goes wrong for us club level guys.

It's still the most fun you can have so it's totally worth that risk.

HaHa...nah, it hasnt put me off

I just like to ask heaps and heaps of questions when im about to take something on just so i'm fully aware.

Although, im a lil worried about forking out 20+K for a GTR for it to end in the wall....

I might have to reconsider the cheaper alternative(S13) as this is purely just for shits and giggles :)

Here you go - the kink at Sandown including RowdyR32

Also - you won't cause a crash to someone else at a sprint day. I've never seen it happen. People cause their own crashes.

I never realised that you could hear me in that video. :P

My experience.

This happened over the top of the back straight at Sandown, when the LHR brake pad delaminated, dropping the backing plate and piston out of the caliper, and leaving me very quickly with minimal braking and turning the wrong way into the corner.

hey, R33_STEALTH

the only track stuff i have done is drifting...

i did come off maybe of a times (ones was pretty close to hitting the wall) but most of the time, it just felt like i did some major damage when really i just did no major damage at all.

like Snowman said, i found @ drifting that the guys with the more track time would come of harder and do major damage. while me and alot of the other people learning just had the minor offs now and then.

i guess you just got to go out there and no push ur car beon ur limits. i must admit drifting isnt full on but when i try to do a few laps of just grip racing it became alot more faster and you really need to stay carm :P

ohh and if you think ur not ready for track days hit up some mc days they are awsome fun (maily 2nd gear work) and you get to learn alot about your car :)
