just had a look, looks to just be a drag strip??

i got told about an actual racetrack

Yes, it's a drag strip. That, and my comment about the target demographic up there pretty much sums up the attitude towards motorsport in Mackay.

Don't know about any plans to build a proper track. It would surprise me if they did, as race tracks seem to be one of the most difficult projects to get going these days, regardless of who you are or how much political pull you have. In this environment of shutting down motorsport complexes, building a new one anywhere is becoming nigh on impossible.

Would be great but I don't have high hopes :(

I don't think there's enough people/cars/potential race series' to justify it

sad to say, would love to be able to go for a race around a circuit without having to travel a full day first

and people think if they keep whinging to the government saying they want a track for drifting or imports it might happen. Well, they are kidding themselves. The labor government is f**king useless and has already pulled up more debt than they can afford. Plus, they don't build tracks for what they call "hoons" and "drifters".

The only way to make it happen is to try and convince mining companies that have big bucks, that building a race track here is a good idea for bigger things. I've already suggested that getting V8 supercars here is the only way. You think they'll build a track just for some import lovers?

Or do you think that saying things like "Rio Tinto V8 supercars round 12, Mackay, sponsored by Rio Tinto, BHP, komatsu, Cummins" etc etc is going to work?

The track needs to be built for bigger events. Then we get to use it.

I ended up talking to my mates Dad who is on the council and he said that it will never happen in the Mackay region. He said that over 25 year there has been too many proporsitions thrown in the bin... 2 included BHP being the main sponser. They just arn't interested in it.

Don't bring my workplace into it lol

But yeah it's been talked about again and again and I dot see it happening. Townsville has a round for the V8 supercars. They wouldn't do another one here

There's noone here with porsche careers cup cars, or any other 1 make or GT series cars here that I know of.

And public race days would therefore be to expensive to cover the costs/insurance etc

As I said. It doesn't look likely, which is Sad yes but from a budget point of view you can't really blame them

Hastings?

We got heaps of white overspray on our GTS2 when my wide worked there (back in 94). Because the overspray was white they said it must have come from VME across the road (Don't know who's there now, or what they're called - were the Volvo / Michigan / Euclid dealer - hence VME)

Back on topic - I feel your pain. How about a panel or spray shop - they have all the gear to buff cars.

Have you tried to do it yourself.. get some paint cleaner and try that it ot doesn't work get some buffing compound just be careful as you don't ewant to strip it right back..

If ya not keen on doin it yaself take it into chris pace furdsen street glenella he does awesome work.. only place in town i'd trust with mine..

    • 1. I can't see a location on your profile but you do mention GBP so I'll assume you are in UK. In Australia, CBC make a timing belt kit with the gears and idler and tension bearing and that is what I use without any problems. I'm sure OEM or HKS are also fine but I wouldn't pay extra for HKS over anything else. 2. Yes, I would always change the idler and tensioner and the stud and bolt that hold them in. Assuming they were all done last time it is highly unlikely you would have a problem, but they are very cheap to add to the job considering the time it will take anyway.  3. No, you don't need to lock them as such (I think that is more for engines without timing marks), but you should make sure they move as little as possible once the belt is off as you can hit pistons on valves if they move too far. As always, make sure you line it all up to top dead centre with the timing marks aligned before you take the old belt off.

    • Hey everyone,   I’m looking for some advice on replacing the timing belt on my RB25DET Neo-powered 1998 Skyline. The engine was fully built about five years ago, including a fresh timing belt, water pump, and other essentials. However, since then, the car has only covered around 2,000–3,000 miles. It’s currently making around 650hp.   Even though the mileage is low, I know timing belts have a time-based lifespan too, and most recommendations suggest changing them every five to six years or 50,000 miles. Since I’m at that time mark, I’d rather not take any risks and plan to swap it out soon.   A few things I’d like to hear opinions on: 1. What’s the best belt for this setup? Should I go with an OEM Nissan belt, or is the HKS fine-tune a better choice given the power level? 2. Would you bother replacing the idler pulley and tensioner at the same time, or only if they show wear? 3. When swapping the belt, is it necessary to lock the cam and crank gears in place, or is lining up the timing marks enough? I’ve seen different approaches, and I want to make sure I do it right.   The water pump was changed with the rebuild and isn’t run off the timing belt, so I don’t see a need to replace it again. I just want to make sure I approach this the right way.   Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!
