more boost you run, later the gate will be open remember...

Mine came open around 4200-4500rpm on the RB25 load depending.

I doubt it'll be "heaps" earlier. You might come close to 4000rpm, but it wont be 3500rpm unless your going 3ltr.

For the power figure your aiming for, there is no need to go single, considering the stuffing around with water/oil lines, air intake, blow-off valve return piping etc....

If you want over 400rwkw, then yes go single, but also look at more displacement for response...

Its a proven combination for track, 2.6 + twin low mounts = good power and response...

Twins will keep the boys in blue off your back aswell...

Beer Baron

If you're after only 300rwkw and good response from 3500-4000rpm then go twins for sure - GT-SS's, 2680r's etc

I had a T78 on my rb26 and it was very laggy (good power from 4800-5000rpm) so I don't think this will suit your purposes.

Have a TO4z now and response is better. It comes on boost quicker with a more linear power delivery (compared to the 'light switch' T78) with good power from around 4300-4500rpm.

If you really want a single than go for a smaller one like the GT3040 as Gary suggested.

As JAGR33 suggested, increase displacement and then you can have your BFOT and response and a cake to eat too :)

thanks for the input. good to get the SAU brains trust on this one.

nick, you are right, HKS GT-SS are the proven option and very good value at $3K, but you do need to factor in twin dumps and front pipes which would be much cheaper on the SST set-up with just one simple dump, and one simple front pipe.

Gary, I hear you on the 2530s too. They would be my other choice I think.

Morgs, I will heed that advice and put the T78 in the BFOT bag. but definately considering one of the small T04Zs.

What housing A/Rs do they come in (both ex and comp).

Something around .81 rear and a .60 front could be good depending on physical size/wheel size/trim. Should be good for 350rwkw and hopefully full boost before 4000rpm. basically whatever turbo I end up with I'd want the wastegate (s) cracked open before 4000. otherwise it's not really going to do it for me on street or track for that matter.

Ok, lets consider the dump pipes and front pipes then, you can still have the HKS turbo kit with stainless front pipes and dump pipes, all brand new for under $4,000 all up - And while we are at it, dont forget all the other fittings and connectors that will be needed with the single conversion, the cost on using high grade fittings and lines add's up very very quickly as you know.

some real good advice here, i think i might now just stick with the low mount option on my budget as i worked everything i needed would cost shit loads! but dam good topic

Dam i wanted to go BFOT for track in the form of T04Z (and like to drive my car around it looks like stock under the bonnet at the moment) but after adding for all the extra parts i just went with 2530s my car is running 1 bar thought stock front and dumps with stock cams and is still making 250awkws on a marine dyno.

Not only that i can keep everythink simple i have nismo AFM and Nismo fuel pump which sould be good for the 350awks when i finaly finsh the car

I absolutely love TO4Z's. Imo, perfect single without going overkill. Also, Dave's engine is stock 200,000km and not quite set up for a big turbo.

Baron, HKS 3240('s) will be good fun :)

When would you see full boost with a to4z that dave is sporting? Did someone say he had a .6x rear? and what sort of power too?

I have a t04z w/ .84rear i think it is sitting in a box at home waiting to replace the 3540...garden variety ofcourse...couldnt justify the extra 1800 bux on the HKS version. But im thinking the housing is too big for track car...

I'm pretty much always wrong, so bear that in mind... alas... I think you over budgeted for what a SST COULD cost, for those of us who have thought of it before for cost reasons.

GT35R ( ok, not that small, but GT30R would be about the same )

EBay GT35R

Less than $2000AUD.

I don't think I'd be paying $1500 for a manifold either.

So in the new cheaper budget, including Manifolds, Dumps and Turbo(s)

$2000 for Turbo

$1000 for Manifold (Even cheaper I reckon)

$600 for dump + front (Even cheaper I reckon)

$400 for intake

Thats only $4000. You'd get the same place to do all the manifold, dump/front and intake. I reckon it wouldn't be hard to rock up with your sub $2000 turbo and say, strap that on for under $2000 guys.

again... I've seldom made a good decision about car mods, so I see no reason to start having good ideas now... it just seems like a good one tho.

yeah I agree. if you forget about the japanese brand name parts the SST could be done a lot cheaper. but i'm a brand wanker. love the shiny boxes etc.

you could go Garret turbo ~$2K

6 boost manifold ~$1K

dump and front pipe ~$400

intake piping ~$400

oil and water lines ~$150

away you go :D
