Laws Regarding Tyres

I was pulled over today, for no apparant reason, and the friendly officer gave me a 77 dollar fine for having bald tyres.

I understand that if your tyres are bald, you should pay the fine, and if they were bald, i would have no reservations.

however, I do not believe that my tyres are illegal. does anyone know the law regarding this and what i should do?

Its only $77, Take it on the chin, move on, not worth fighting it.

Check the tread wear indicator - if its below that, then you have a leg to stand on, but if i were you - accept the $77 fine and just forget about it

also check if u have camber wear..

if ur tyre are fine on the outside but bald on the inside its also a defect

the important question that everyone needs to know is, not whether you 'think' your tyres are bald, but what is the exact tread depth?

there is a minimum tread depth. The policeman wasn't saying that your tyres were bald as an orange. He suspected that it was below the minimum.

Is there camberwear? e.g. is it worn on the inside or outside?

I haven't checked the legislation for a while, but i think the minimum was 1.6mm
