i did clean it with a dremel slightly, is ur's a s2 motor?(maybe i got a s2 motor, i duno) can any1 else answer this?

yes car is a series 2. and ignitors built in coilpack. but i didnt think that would have mattered?

ya mine are like that to.. all shiny and clean looking... i was disapointed cause i was hoping theyd have heaps of crap on em :D

mines a s2 also.

just had a look at mine a while ago and it looks metal as well. unless the actual 'metal' is junk and once cleaned it comes up with the copper look.

going to my friends house saturday morning ... doing 2 s1 33's at the same time... will let u know how it goes... no pics sorry :S but will tell ya if its a fix his misses day and night mine only misses in the cold night

The coil that was arcing out the most did have the most crap in it.. But it isn't that bad. :S

I'll now clean them up and see how it goes.

You can see the darker off looking colour. The camera lightens it up quite a bit more but the color is quite dark.

Cleaned up the small amount of crap inside the coil..

And noticed a cracks on all the coils, some noticeably cracked, others didn't look cracked but under the camera they obviously were starting to do so. Quite difficult to see but the camera in macro mode shows the crack very nicely.

And fingers crossed.. the silicon does something.. Either way I know I'm up for a set of coils and cleaning the inside in my case isn't going to jack. :devil:

Mine have been on the car for 220,000km's + what ever it was wound back. They were very clean in side the coils apart from one that only had a bit of gunk as posted above in a previous post.

They all had cracks in the same place. I was unable to find any others but its quite possible there is one under the bracket that holds them to the larger bracket.

the silicon might melt, so keep an eye on it somehow.

if it does melt, you might get away with pushing some araldyte into the crack as much as you can.

A quick google - silicon has a melting point of ~1410degree's c.

Hrmmm sounds a tad high as I've melted silicon in the past with a soldering iron, maybe 'pure' silicon? :devil:

As I can only really see the first 3 coils, number 2 with the big crack in it still sparks and can be seen at night :laugh:.

Number 1 and 3 that were only starting to crack don't light up anymore. I might pull them out again after a little driving and see if I can see arc marks and how the silicon is holding up.

just pulled mine out today.... originally they looked like the first pic posted on page 1.... grey crappy looking etc... could not see color... NOW they are nice and coppery shiny woooot lol had a few cracks used the industrial grade stuff ... 203C continuasly see how it goes when it dries and i put them back in!

All though I can still see the coils arcing out once warm I am no longer getting the pop/miss fire.

So it has worked, I'm not running much boost at the moment (12psi) so with more boost it may very well fall on its face again.

A new set of coils are going in none the less.

A mate of mine runs 16psi through a highflow and thats popping badly where a massive power loss is felt. I'll silicon up his in a week or so and let you all know how it goes. :)

Also.. The silicon is holding up perfectly fine. No peeling, melting etc.

I did make sure I cleaned the coils well prior (prepsol)

What sort of silicon are you guys using? How long does it take to dry etc?

Mine misfires badly around 4k up running around 12psi.

I pulled the coils out on the weekend, couldn't see any cracks, mines looked like the pics on page 1 to begin with, cleaned up well.

Put them back in, not much difference, I did notice it was a little better, still can't give it full throttle though.

With the silicon and cleaning the coils, what are you gapping the plugs, .8 or 1.1?

Plugs must be gapped at 0.8mm

The cracks are quite hard to see. I missed them at first. The ones that I thought were not cracked under the camera showed as they were indeed.

I think they must also crack some where else as I siliconed up the crack that I could see yet i can see it arcing on the opposite side.

Either way its fixed the pop for me for the mean while.

    • Hi    have purchased pair of eibach wheel spacer as I couldn’t fit set of wheels I bought for my car due to it catching caliper.   I know I need to cut the bolts on my discs so they sit flush with the nut supplied but the nut doesn’t sit all the way into the groove meaning wheel would not directly fit onto the spacer rather the nuts.     • Nah. There's not shit tonnes of pressure in there. Just drill with a 1.5mm drill or something equally tiny. When the drill goes all the way through thee gas will start to come out, but with such tiny path through the flutes of the drill bit, it won't be at all dangerous. You can be as paranoid as you like from then on. I'd just pull the drill out while keeping my face out of the line of fire. But then, I spend half my time looking into pressurised furnaces. So my risk acceptance is somewhat higher than most!
    • Been needing a new clutch for a while, but holding off because of life tingz and adulting. But... Being of Asian descent, I can't pass on a good sale, especially everyone else is selling it for $2k+ (JJR has it for $1799). Really on the fence on this one, because the unsprung version of this is $1281 via Shitbox (Sparesbox) and the sprung version is quite a bit more (no idea why Shitbox doesn't offer them). Ending up just sending it and getting the twin sprung organic. Mainly because I wanted the car to be nice to drive and didn't want to make it more of a shitbox than it already is.    
    • It was the pressure I was worried about. @GTSBoy does drilling them pose any problems?
