can you get mini spools for the stock MR30 diffs and on another note do you need a different drive shaft to run a r200 longnose in an MR

I advise strongly against lockers in an R30...mate of mine had one for a bit and he broke half shafts like you wouldn't beleive, killed couple of diffs, and at one stage we broke a half shaft which cut a rear brake line as well....yuck!!! Don't do it

I know some people that locked the rear end of their MR30 and they don't have any problems with it. It should be fine provided your cv's aren't up the shitter.

For your money I'm told a locker is the best bang for your buck.

couple sidenotes;

Replace the bushes allround with poly-uraphane ones.

Don't let off the throttle in the middle of slides, you'll just spinout.

When driving, you're either sideways and it's on, or you're not and it's off.

of course, if you're allot less inclined to go sideways then buying an LSD probably isn't worth it in the first place.

locker = cheaper, especially for track drifting.

Gostrider: You said before that nissan have never made a R220(9 inch) but they actuly have! But its a shortnose type and they come in Z32 300ZX's!

And what are all you guys going on bout lock diffs being bad or what ever? They are perfectly safe in R30s they dont break axles at all I have had the same one in my last 3 HR30s(built it for my paddock/derby car) and then it went into my turbo roadcar then into last non turbo roadcar and it was with the same axles for all of them and it probably ended up doing around 10000kms or more so far! and a mate has had a locker in his C31 laurel for the last year and a half and has not broken anything!

Stuff having a R200 LSD unless they are rebuilt with a higher pound kit as they are just to inconsistant and unpredictable and so over priced its just stupid!

Maybe you should read more posts as you will see I said the factory R200 mechanical LSD's are no better than a single spinner (open diff) because Nissan used them as a marketing tool more than a performance option.

I have 2 x R200 LSD's, both long nose, both 2 way mechanical, one is a Cusco centre with pre loads of about 80lb and the other is the stock Nissan out of my PNV.

As for Nissan making an R220, your full of yourself, the Z32 and S13/14 and R32/33 diffs are all R200, no such animal bigger in IRS made by Nissan.

I have one, short nose viscous LSD 3.692:1 from a manual R32 and it's most suitable as a boat anchor.

Cheers, D

I thought the Z32 300ZX-TT diff was the R230... http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&...+r230&meta=

Phil,

I looked at the link, but I don't know for sure how they categorise the Z32 diff, but what I can tell you is, the R200 back plates are interchangeable. From our long nose mechanical DR/HR30's, HR31's, Z32's, S13/14's etc. They are all interchangeable, the later ones just have allowance for the ABS.

I have this back plate on my R200 long nose.

By Quaife do you mean a Torson gear/worm type mechanical LSD ? Very interested to see details if thats the case .

Cheers A .

Yeah that's the one, Quaife from the UK make it, they call it an ATB (automatic torque biasing) diff, so similar to torsen.

I got it through Palmside http://www.palmside.co.nz/ in NZ, he (Deane) ordered it in and then posted it to me in Newcastle, very easy.

I had a diff shop fit it, they had to bugger around a bit with shims setting the backlash, but all went together good.

So far I have taken it around Wakefield park, and it seemed great, great traction and very smooth. Going in a hillclimb this weekend so will see how it goes around tight twisty stuff.

I put a KAAZ LSD into my R200 Longnose. It is a real cranky bugger when it is cold! No difference between it and the locker it replaced (except when the clutch pedal is down, of course).

Disco, here's some details on the Quaife ATB for your R200.
