well ive been around long enough for the 3 trials of daylight saving and am yet to see any benefit for it except for business and well if you wanna deal with the eastern states get up early and go to work to deal with it .

why should the majority have to change to suit the minority .

and why does W.A. not having daylight saving mean we are behind the times ?

maybe its because we are intelligent enough to realise that more people in daylight at the end of the day means more people possibly getting skin cancer (of which i have) which means more expense and drain on our medical proffesion.

and in reality people who say its good to spend more time @ end of day playing with their kids and doing stuff is rubbish when i would think most people go to work then they comehome and veg out for a while to relax . Not come home and rush down to the beach or the park to play with their kids.

this whole thread is a waste anyway coz us as voters are not getting a say in it b4 the trial even goes ahead and they will prolly scam some way so there wont even be a referendum about it after the 3 years anyway.

and the times dont really affect me at all coz i start work @ 1 am 5 nights a week so daylight saving has real affect on spending extra time with kids at the end of the day coz im up out of bed @ 3 when they come home from school

Steve if you saw a man eat sh** would you do that as well

why should we jump on the day light saving band wagon ?

Economically ?? wtf for .

Actually I would eat sh** if someone gave me a valid reason to. :(

I don't know why people are either for or against daylight saving....it really doesn't make that much difference at the end of the day.

After a 3 year trial you won't even think twice about it.

And Stageagirl.....are you for real? Your "findings" on daylight saving are ground breaking!

hmm odd quote about the sun is out, the further north you go the less time the sun is up during summer right?

eg: Antarctica has daylight non-stop for about the middle 6 weeks of summer, then sees as much daylight as my asshole normally does for the whole of july...

so imagine putting yourself to sleep in that!

I was in Northern Ireland July last year (their summer) and it was light until 10pm at night. It was VERY convenient. Everyone was still out and about doing stuff well into the night

Obviously Perth wouldnt have day light saving at 10pm at night :P but the extra time in the sun after work would be fanastic for all of us who work 8-5 weekdays.

k i say get up earlier ya wusses but realisticly due to buerecratical bs that stops us trades from starting at dawn like we wana if you can make 7 in the mornin earlier ( daylightwise) durin summer bring it if not shove it

Interesting articles on daylight savings in todays sunday times, page8 - it shows

Daylight savings give farmers a longer day to do work around the farm, yet doesnt effect milk production or upset the cows

Daylight savings doesnt have a negative effect on childrens sleeping habits if they are in established sleep routines - in sweden where they can have up to 24 hours of light during certain times of the year, children still get sleep

Skin cancer is highest in QLD and WA, two states that dont have daylight savings - there is absolutely no evidence to show skin cancer rates will increase due to daylight savings

independant polls show up to 89% support in WA for daylight savings.

Most resistance to daylight savings is from elderly, and those living in 'old' suburbs, such as cottesloe etc.

exactly!!!!!! gets f**king hot working out in the sun in summer..

My favorite was the "I want to support the little guy" argument against deregulated trading hours - I was that little guy, and I kept saying "bring it on!" How are you supposed to do your shopping if you own/run a small business that allready has longer hours than the big shops? I'd have prefered to say "I'm closing at 6pm, and then I'll do my groceries at 7pm". People really seemed to believe that EVERY shop would be forced to be open 24/7. Even the big boys only stay open as long as they think they'll get the business.

To be honest, I don't really care that much about daylight saving - I think we should have it, but the days in Australia don't vary that much by season (not like in Europe). However, I think if we are going to have it, it should be uniform accross the country.

You'd be surprised the number of businesses on the east coast that can't seem to get their heads around the fact that Perth is now an extra hour behind and they can't call at the usual time to get you... or that you're going to have to call them an hour earlier if you don't want to miss them.

The cows? - I don't know how they managed to set their alarm clocks anyway... maybe we'll let them off, they can just come in to be milked when they feel it's right. I was over in Woolengong last week, which is in the heart of the NSW dairy country when daylight savings came in - I didn't see any panic, cows roaming the streets, farmers broken by the change in routine... I did see faded curtains, but that could just be Woolengong.

To be honest, I blame the state governments for being so un-cooperative with each other... but that's a whole other rant.

yeah, state governments should co-operate more but on the other hand theres the different parties in different states so that could complicate it... also different states have different conditions/reasons to do things that others might not. i guess what im saying is it would be good if they communicated, but i understand that it would be difficult.
