dont u guys hate what some mechanics say... especially on imports.

went to a mechanic, and asked if he could stick in a turbo for me as an estimate (got no time for it diy) and figured he would have all the lines and stuff ready to go..

the bloke says "mate its not as simple as that mate" and im thinkin, yea i know mate, dont want excuses, i probably have more knowledge in my thumb then your hollow head!!!!

been to about 4 different mechanics all say the exact same thing. gets to the point when u want to stick the farkin thing in their face.

man.... mechanics can be soo condescending, stuff them.!!!!

eventually i never got a price, he kept making excuses....so fk him, diy........eventually

anyone got any other stories.!

One word Brad...one word only... "Marty". Let me know when you need to see him and i'll introduce ya (again)...He's doing my rotors this week...So perhaps you could pick me up when i drop my car off and talk to him about it?

Let me know if you can....since your on holidays and all  nah, well deserved....

Cheers...

lol shhh! the beast will be released soooon!!! oie sunny got some racing gear today nice n shmick!

More racing gear? from where????? Do you know if they have any more of those black helmets in stock??? I need one soonish...

Still waiting on my carbon fibre hey...should be here today...Bloody slow post..

yea i went to him when i dropped u off last time and just asked him, if he could wack it in. and he went all "its not as simple as that mate" on me. so i dont think i will let him do it. might just get him to do a clutch. nothing else.

all i can say is thank god for family friends that are mechanics. they can sign u off for scheduled maintenance, and dont give u shit, and actually like u to help them through the process.

Ah yep..... What type of turbo is it again?

just getting an estimate, ive narrowed it down to a ball bearing Garrett T04Z=$1800.

better to spend the money, and get a good one so it lasts. + a hi mount manifold = $812. looking to have it all done within 1-2mths.

plus, just finished polishing my new plenum, so if this bloke welds it up for me, i am aiming to get it on this weekend. may have to work thru the night.

i will probably install the turbo myself now, prob get me dad to do most of the work, he knows his turbo's. just means another thing i have to do, get oil lines, adapters, fasteners etc. whereas if i just gave it to someone it could be done in 1-2 days.

but yea. will do it myself. then chuck it on a trailer and tow it down to maroochy exhaust centre, kunda park=legends do a good job.

Im quite surprised Marty actually said that to you, maybe he doesnt really know you and how much you actually know, like no offence but he gets alot of young blokes going up to him and saying what they want done or thinking that they know what it takes to do a turbo change etc etc.

Ive known him for many years as a mechanic and a personal friend.

You can it yourself and learn a bit along the way, and as you said just takes longer .

Have you thought of KV's resto and race? He did my turbo conversion on my sedan he does top notch work too, he did the whole kit water, oils lines, exhaust manifold etc.

Ryder,

My carbon fibre window pilla vinyl came today...you up to help me out Thursday?

Should look mint new...

Swizzle...

hey man jus checked, no soccer on thursday, so conpletely free to help ya out with paint and carbon fibre. give us a yell.

Mizzle...

yea r334door, i will do it myself, learn alot more along the way, and do it the way i want it, eg. line paths etc.

but its cool im not in a rush anymore. :P

sounds like your cars coming along nicely cruiser:) will be awesome when its all been complete ;)

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
