Have you guys got a boost cut defender or aftermarket ecu? as the stock ecu will cut ignition at about 12psi.

Just a thought, it might be boost cut.

I am running NGK BCPR6ES (pre gapped at 0.8mm) with 200 odd rwkw and I can just keep winding the boost up (most I have used is 1 bar - its a stock turbo) but haven't had a problem.

Heres how i would go about it.

1 set boost to 11psi or lower if the problem exists at that boost

2 Have my new plugs gapped to .6 or so

3 Take kick panel off to expose the computer and check wiring for loose connections

4 Unclip Ignighter pack for a known good one and take the car for a run

5 Take 1 known good coil pack and give it a run each time swapping good coil pack to a different cylinder

6 Replace computer with known good one

Ive done this from easiest to hardest labour wise..

Ecept the computer as it is rare for it to happen plus availability of a spare is sometimes difficult.

Good luck mate

OK....Gave the car I run today....running at .8 BAR the car started misfiring at aroung 5000RPM...

I had a look at the S-AFC and noticed that all the settings were set to zero. I re-entered the correct settings but unfortunitly the misfiring still occured but now it starts to misfire at lower revs...

  • 1 year later...

i had this problem with my 33........turned out to be standard fuel regulator. i got a malpassi and everythings sweet........to test coils pull em out and take to auto electrician...they should have an ohms reader to test the resistance......

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
