Hey all,

I have never owned a skyline though i love them very much my dream will become true early next year as i am going to purchase a R33.

I live in Salisbury and i am planning to purchase a skyline from Melbourne as there are better deals/prices compared to here, yes please have argued that other states have better prices but i have alot of family in Melbourne and i visit there atleast 4 times a year so i know my way round places. Sorry this is so long but i just need a few tips in Peformance.

The majority of R33's i have seen in a specific car yard are stock which i most prefer. After i purchase a R33 for around $13-14grand for around 70-90 thousand k's i will drive it back to adelaide where i will get it transfered into my name. And ofcourse not forgetting the RWC.

First thing im going to work on is the performance side of the car. This is the list of things i will get done in order:

Pod

Exhaust

Intercooler ( Prehaps i will need to get the front skirt for this)

Turbo Upgrade

Forged Pistons

Boost Controller

I am aiming to produce around 260rwkw and hopefully boostworx can perform all of the above.

I am getting around 20-25grand loan where the R33 will be around 13-14grand and the rest i want to put in towards performance and a bit of visual upgrades.

Can someone please give me some tips and how much my list is going to cost around.

The mod list are a little out of order from what I would do.

A pod won't give you more power on a turbo car UNLESS your well in to the 200rwkw range as the stock air box isn't a restriction until then. It will give you a fast noise though. :laugh:

So in this order. :D

Exhaust

Fuel pump

Boost Controller

Inter cooler

PowerFC (ECU)

Injectors

Turbo upgrade (GT30r .63 Internal Gate from Garrett)

Then start looking at a pod :sick:

That list works better than mine alright so you reckon that will give me around 250rwkw dyno tuned and how much will it cost around?

Or you could look at a simple bolt on unit such as the GCG Highflow that are well known to make a solid 250rwkw andwont require the added cost of intake and and dump pipe mods.

How much... well Powerfc 1k.. injectors 800, ebc (run the pfc ebc if u want cheap or something like an Avcr) 400-800, intercooler.. the cheap just jap style do the job so ~400-600, fuel pump 220 ish

Don't bother with a bleed valve for boost control unless your sticking to the stock turbo.

would it be a good sugestion to register the car in his name whilst hes @ a relatives house in melb. then he will be the registered driver when it comes to SA and not be such a headache to register ie no regency

another option is buy one with most of that stuff done you will save a bit of money but its upto you i mean if your getting a 25k loan theres some pretty sweet cars out ther for that much, if you would prefer a stock one then go for it lol..

Definitely with Sinista on this one.

Buy a car already modded. They are tough cars, I wouldn't be too worried about the car being thrashed.

Personally I would be more concerned with how the body and interior is compared to how healthy the motor is.

The gearbox.. bah.. tough as nails. Diff. same but they do tend to get a little loose (single spin) in their old age.

I would much prefer to buy a car with a pfc, fmic, injectors, turbo and have to spend $$ on rebuilding the motor, end up with a much better car with nice internals.

Not sure I'd go as far with the engine mods as you want to straight away without doing some sought of suspension/handling work.

It's all well & good having all that power, but you need to have a car that's capable of cornering & stopping just as quickly.

So some additional things to add to what Cubes already listed:

- Deacent quality tyres & maybe wheels (270KW is probably a bit much for any tyre in the stock size IMO)

- Firmer springs & bushes (at the absolute minimum. Preferably some good quality monotube shocks as well)

- Clutch (it will have to be changed for that kind of power anyway)

- Brake rotors (stockies aren't the best)

- Master cylinder brace

- Oil catch tank

- & before you do anything too serious make sure all the fluids etc are all up to scratch.

You can't build a sky scraper without a deacent foundation, or a top fuel dragster without a parachute, same analogy applies for a street car. Just a bit of friendly advice, don't want to see people getting hurt.

Alright lets put it this way, I have never driven a skyline before yet i am in love with it i own a 4 cylinder honda accord ffs and i have never driven a turbo car except a mitsubishi cordia not stock but meh still a glorified sigma yes it was a faster car than mine i still prefer to stick to my accord because the amount of payouts you get in a cordia is not funny. in the other hand a r33 is a straight 6 and plus turbo so i dont know kind of power to expect really.

prehaps i should get a lightly modded car from here in adelaide and get used to the power before going straight into the crazy power.

What do you guys suggest?

also wots your age and road experiance power can do things to a man :D

you can expect probably double the power of your honda and cordia its hard to say how modified it was ive seen a highly modified 1 and in a straight line he was fast but when he got behind me in the twisties i left him for dead

nah i wouldn't go for power! because of the issues of petrol, cops and insurance etc etc! well what i would do is replace parts that need to be replaced! just try to improve the way the car runs, because it's a head f*k when you're modding your car and it breaks down and creates problems!

well learn how to drive the car before you start changing it! that's my opinion

I wouldn't say don't mod your car to avoid the cops, just do it so that it's descreet & primarily legal (ie not dumped on it's guts & loud as hell with the fat cannon out the back, noisy BOV etc.).

I haven't got stacks of mods yet, but I aim to keep it as secret as possible, the less it yells out 'come & get me' the less likely they are to touch you.

25k can get you a very nice r33 gtr and enough spare cash to get over 250rwkw out of it if you import it direct from japan, let me know if your interested in importing as i can help you out there. I also have a modded 180 and an auto r33 coming in from jap in 2 wks if your interested.
