Guest Diabolik1
Hey all, I just recently noticed that my car is getting hard to start... On friday night it just couldnt start at all....i thought it was the alarm so the alarm guy came out, and we successfully started it with jumper leads.... I then bought a new battery, a bit bigger one, and this morning it was very hard to start again.. it would have to be either electrical or fuel....i checked out the fuel, and its there, its getting the fuel....so even with a new battery it would have to be electrical right? has anyone else had this problem? it starts cranking, and just cranks for a long time and u gotta do that for maybe 2-3 minutes off and on for it to hopefully start. could ultra tune maybe fix this? cos i dont have time to take it to HILLS cos i need the car this weekend, and theres an ultra tune near work... thanx Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14093-problems-starting/ Share on other sites
Guest Diabolik1
To add to this: Once i start it, and then switch it off...it starts automatically after that with no problems. It only happens when its cold.... its quite bizzare Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14093-problems-starting/#findComment-282785 Share on other sites

Guest Diabolik1
doesnt it cheese you off that it takes you ages to start the car and youre nearly draining the battery everytime u do it...? i might just take it to Hills and live without it for the time it takes Mark to figure out what it is, unless he already knows what it is... Ill let u know either way. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14093-problems-starting/#findComment-283147 Share on other sites
one8tsx
When it cranks, does it crank slowly? My guess is that something is draining the battery when you leave the car, and making it hard to start later on. But, when you leave it off for just a few seconds, it'll restart no problems because it hasn't had time to drain the battery. Use a multimeter and check if there is significant current flow from the battery when the car is off. rb26dett
my experience with this was due to dirty injectors. but it did not take me 2 -3 minutes to start in the cold, just the 1st start of the day took significantly longer. got the injectors cleaned and now starts on the 1st crank. Guest Diabolik1
No, it cranks very fast..specially with the new battery. i just rang Mark from Hills and within 2 seconds he said "Fuel pressure regulator" i went to Hills on my lunch break and dropped the car off... Hopefully pick it up tomorrow or if Mark is too busy, on tuesday. Ill give ya all the rest of the details when i get the receipt. Thanx all for your replies Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14093-problems-starting/#findComment-283300 Share on other sites
Mr Rb20
I've got the same problem. My initial thought was the injectors but after reading the post, the fuel pressure regulator makes sense too. If this is the case, would it be affecting the car in any other way ie performance ?? Be interested to see your comments when you pick the car up Diabolik. Please inform us of price too. rb26dett
hmm...could have been that....i got my injectors cleaned and installed a nismo fuel regulator as well...so it could have been that. my 1st thoughts were fuel pump...good thing that was wrong Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14093-problems-starting/#findComment-284379 Share on other sites
Guest Diabolik1
I made a post about 2-3 months ago about my car sometimes just losing power.....in 4th gear driving about 60, and then accelerating slowly to around 70 it would lose power for about half a second and then get back on its feet...that i bet was due to this aswell... also while driving to work yesterday and to Hills, the engine died once while i was at the lights, and lost power for a second about 2-3 times...so it was really starting to get bad. ill let ya know all the details as soon as i get the car back...i miss it already...im driving around in my gf's dad's V8 statesman, so if u see an ugly statesman give one of you guys in your skylines a thumbs up...dont swear at me and say hello back, heheh Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14093-problems-starting/#findComment-285047 Share on other sites
Guest Diabolik1
Hey, Well after a week of my car being at Hills, its fixed and i will be on my way to pick it up in 2.5 hours. It ended up being the ECU. It wasnt getting a cold start signal, and it wasnt getting fuel.. Theyve changed the Fuel Pressure regulator, but the problem still happened, and after changing the ECU with a new one, prob was fixed. So if anyone else is having the same problem, check this out... Thanx again. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14093-problems-starting/#findComment-295014 Share on other sites
