Is it unusual to run a Genuine Std Rb30 pump? all this talk about pump failures is making me think i should definately go external.

The RB30ET blokes have always used them.

There was a bloke on here running a td06-20g setup running the std rb30 pump. Sitting on the rev limiter at 7500rpm during massive burn outs and it hasn't let go.

Apart from that I really don't know how far the std pump has been pushed. These days calais turbo will be full of the dohc pumps where as before back in the early days of the rb30et's they would have no doubt pushed the std pump hard.

What did Bu5ter do with his rb30det setup? He hasn't had any issues that I know of.

Hi guys,

I've made a few changes including the phone number as I spent all day talking to people in Bombay trying to change my phone plan etc. I've also got out of general reconditioning but I'm still doing this stuff. You can get me on 0448 826256 (bh) if you need a collar. Sorry moderators, I'm not trying for a free plug, just getting the details right. The address is still the same, so is the website though very underdone due to time constraints.

Cheers,

Greg.

I havent had the collar done yet as the rest of the engine is still not finished and paid for. Im outta money at the moment as i just forked out $10500+ tot he panel beater. Will come soon though, im convinced to get it done for peace of mind.

dunno, but the drive on the RB30 pump is less than half of that on the RB26!

Go external mate :pirate:

Cubes: It doesnt mean less flow it means less drive width.

The rb30 smaller internal gears do mean less flow.

Big chunky teeth take bigger bites of the fluid. A bit like a small turbo compressor wheel and a large one.

I took a heap of pics of dohc and rb30 pumps when I was doing my motor. You want to see how pathetic the rb30's internal gears look to that of an rb25/gtr pump? :)

Pro engines..

Thats interesting RE: R33 Pump internal gear width.

My pump had the internal gear being thicker than the external. (Unless its just the angle of your pic)

Both gears were also thicker than the rb30 pump gears I had on hand. Maybe my rb30 pump was n/a.

I did take measurements and should have them laying around somewhere.

I'd say you will find the actual rotors of the gear are the same width, in the photo the centre gear sits up because of the hub that locates the gear in the pump. The VL pump I have in the photo may have been a turbo one, I can't be sure, it was just lying around when I thought I'd compare a few different ones.
