Buy a s-hitbox, something low power fwd good on fuel. Run that sucker in to the ground. Then when your older and wiser and wont wreck it buy a nice car with all the extra money you have saved.

One other pointer, on that little s-hitbox get full compo insurance even if the yearly premium is more than the car is worth. It WILL save you thousands by the time you are old enough to own that nice car.

Learn from my mistakes, its cheaper and easier.

Wise words there, i started with a 85 barina, cost nothing to run, didnt look or go fast, but it got me around.

If you want a skyline and your on your "p" you might still be able to get a non-turbo model.

buy my Valiant.

I dont think that the government even knows whats going to happen with the new licence restrictions. But I could say that it will go the ways of NSW with the power restrictions so I would say post on the NSW forum to get a better idea on what their restrictions are.

actually if you just get 3rd party property it counts towards your insurance rating.. i had 3rd party on my 2nd daihatsu (as comprehensive was going to be 880 per year!) a few years later with my next car i went in as a rating 2 and quickly became a rating 1 by the time i got my skyline - hence i only pay 960 per year for full comprehensive for my car (including mods).

Oh and barinas suck, buy a charade!! rwah daihatsu powah

That is so unlucky! IF you were born 3 days earlier you would be fine! I agree just buy a crap car and run it to death, Or maybe buy a Na Skyline or Silvia so at least you are learning in a RWD so when proper skyline time comes you are ready

Actually it depends on the insurance agency you go with as to whether they'll take the years you've had 3rd party for when giving you a rating. Same deal with being a secondary driver on your parents insurance, some insurance places will acknowledge this and give you a rating, others will send you back to square one.

Exactly, and the insurance companies that cover modified cars such as Just Car are usualy more strict than the others. So ring them up and check it out.

well i think ill have around 8000 for my first car and i was talking to damo about maybe a 2.5l nonturbo r32 whcih he helped me with

ill be buying this in the first half of next year what do you think about this?

Seriously dude, get some small FWD s-hitbox run it in to the ground. Something like a pulsar or a corolla, something that you cant kill. The insurance will be cheap, fuel will be cheap, its going to be way cheaper to fix. And they are good fun little cars to learn in. An NA skyline is 1 going to have little to no resale value anyway, going to cost a motza to insure, if you crash it or ding it or whatever, which there is a fair chance you will, its going to cost more. Fuel will be more etc. And rwd if you dont know what your doing can get you in to trouble way easier than FWD, its just the nature of the car. That and less chance of cops pulling you over THINKING you have a turboed car, and once your pulled over they start looking for something.

In regards to the insureance insu is 100% correct and its what I got caught out on. Im now 22 and just now getting decent insurance quotes after a bit of negotation, and im a freaking defensive driving instructor! They said it made no difference so I keep asking :(

its just that a little shitbox doesnt sound so appealing but then i know there getting more value but i know someone i might be able to get an ae86 off

would that suit?

RWD, insurance, cops

With the new laws do you need P plates too? Just ads to the cops.

Im not saying rwd is bad, far far from it. Its tops fun. But when you have little experience its prob not the best thing, and looking at the future.

But given the choice of the rb25de line or the ae86, go the skyline man!

ahh i see well im not really looking into any serious mods atm

but i guess ebing a p plater will add the cops

which will annoy me but i am going to make sure i dont have anything illegal on it

and if its for speeding etc ill have to cop it on the chin because that would be my own fault

its really the fact that ive saved 95% of my working money for my first car and i would love to be able to go to a skidpan day or track day etc even with a stock car would make me very happy

as in the future i intend to modify whatever car i will end up getting into a circuit car

and a rwd sounds better for that so i can learn

thats my main reasining i dont plan to be a massive hoon on the raods as that creates the stereotype of p platers and people who drive modified cars

but frmo what i know through reading magazines and meating people that is only a few who intend on wrecking it for everyine else

well back on my orignal topic would i be able to get a v6 as some1 said i wont be able to with the new laws and that is what im worring about very much

dude... don't even think about getting an AE86 as your first car...

a) they're rare enough as it is

b) they're WAY overpriced, and parts are rediculously expensive if you break something

c) About the only thing you have going for you is insurance (assuming its stock) - they don't charge TOO much to insure them (well, they didn't when i had mine anyway)

d) don't know about now, but when i used to have mine the cops had NFI what they were, but i assume by now they've pulled over that many wannabe drifters that they've got a bad rep and are targetted by cops.

e) They are not a good car to learn car control in for a beginner, as they are very twitchy, and will swap ends extremely easily if you don't know what you're doing with them.

as has already been said, please heed these guys advice: they know what they're talking about...

get a cheap car... maybe even a N14 Pulsar Q or Ti (they have a N/A SR20DE in them) or something like that if you dont want something TOO slow...

it will be an infinitely nicer car to drive than a clapped out stocker AE86, but it doesn't have the 'ZOMG look at me dorifto' factor.

Edit: also get comprehensive insurance, as it will help you later in life with insurance ratings etc, but you just have to be wary of what claims you make (i.e. don't make a claim for doing $1000 damage to the car, as they'll rape you for it... just pay the repairs yourself)

a 3rd party property insurance policy also counts towards your rating, you dont have to get comprehensive

With some companys yes it does. Others it means dilly squat all nothing. Trust me, I've just gone through the process not 2 days ago.

hmm ok well if it helps anyone i had 3rd party on my 2nd car for 3 years with AAMI, then was able to get comprehensive on my 3rd car for a year then went to a rating one which i currently hold with justcar insurance (which are part of aami)

Angel: it aint just turbo that pulls dollars in insurnace, it is skyline and silvia etc and spoilers and cyclinders...hence why even an NA skyline will cost you....get like an old corolla rwd....save your doh and buy an r34 in a few years when they will be bugger all. Learn from my mistakes as well.

Demon: it is soo much fun having a turboed rwd drive sports car, it cost a small fortune it is worth it, but you wont have money to much else. you can shyt on most other people in their commonwhores etc...its sooo much fun.

Neither: buy one and dont drive it just mod it and get it really good...have a shyt box and a nice one.....you'll have an awesome car when you drive it.

ok then then what sort of small car should i get?

and being young and stupid id like something with a decent engine alot of mates etc will be getting commodores and falcons etc myself was also looking into a commodore ute

but if you reckomend a small car i would like something that would be as fast as around a vt commodore

(something that probably isnt a wise desiscion)
