Hi guys, im starting to get really stressed now..

i took my car out last week end.. gave it a bit of a raping. fair few quick shifting/ dumping the brass button clutch. But not launching just gear changing.

Anyways now its whining Very loudly. 2 things i noticed..

1) when you have the car in netural and clutch all the way out.. the car makes the most horrible whining noise very loud and continuious.. when u dis-engage the clutch. and have it all the way to the floor the sound dissapears.

2) while taking off slowly keep the rpm low and crawling in 1st/2nd gear is VERY whining like its a dog box. lol

Any ideas to what this problem is? i could resord a sound file and attach it to this post if people wnna help diaognose it.

thanks guys

Adam

1) Possibly your gearbox bearing (1st). Mine has been noisy for months now.. although if extremely noisy I would change it but other wise next time you drop the gearbox (e.g clutch change) change it then.

2) If it is the above then u will hear the sound whilst ever the clutch isn't engaged.

Could be completely wrong! But thats what the sound is in my car. Although mine isn't so much as a whine but a bearing sound!

yer mine sounds like a bearing noise the more i think about the sound.. like turning.. bearing sound..

also i just had my clutch changed like 2 months ago  and everything was put in new..

clutch, throw out bearing, rear main seal, needle roller bearing, and new oil, new pressure plat and new clutch and machined flywheel.. the whole kit and caboodle

Bearing is cheap as... as long as you or someone you know can drop the gearbox and replace it

But depending how bad it is they can be noisy for years! My s13 had the same problem for 4 years.. never fixed it as it never got any worse!

yer doesnt seem to be getting worse the imput shaft bearing is that the one on the engine side where the clutch get lined up from and rolls on it?.. or in the gearbox itself before the shaft exits the box into the bellhousing??

cheers
