sounds about right man i have a S1 Rx7 many years ago was stock no turbo and was paying 1500-1600 cant quiet remeber

did you try young and cool insurance or even famous

http://www.youngandcool.com.au/

young and cool wouldnt insure me cause im too old

I wouldn't touch young & cool. When I first bought my 33 & was 23 they wanted a fortune to insure me (rating 1 something like $2300!) & their policy was crap.

The other options I had was Just Car Insurance, Unique Car Insurance & Shannons. Both unique car & Just car insurance wanted more to insure me & their conditions were not as goon IMO.

Unfortunantely I've had to use my insurance more than once with them & apart from one problem I had with them (& was resolved) they've looked after me very well.

my insurance was due 2day...$908 just cars full comp rating 1

i tried getting a better price but they wont budge lol.

the excess is the killer, when it comes to a car work 11k, id just get 3rd party (thats wat i did with my old GTS cos it was worth 11k), cos if ur gona pay 2k premium + 2k excess, theres half the cars value anyway, u could prob get close to taht if u sold it for parts if u wrote it off, and if its a small crash, do the repairs urself and save the money.

I'm 22i have a 95 GTST Mspec and its costing me $1058

I'm pretty happy with it as it was going to cost me more to insure a newer (98 - 99) Honda Accord!!!!

who was that with i think im paying $770 full comp  with arround $1000 exces and insured for $21,700

Vange try Famous Insurance

I'm 24, rating 1. I was paying just under $900 with Just Car, but have recently switched to Shannons. It is a couple of hundred bucks more expensive, but we get a bit of a discount for having 2 cars with them, plus their excess is much more reasonable (about $1,600 less) than the one that Just Car has.

Up until recently, I was using Just Cars Insurance. Renewal was $880 on full rating 1 with an excess of $1100. They offer a "Rating One Protection" for a few bucks more which is worthwhile.

The problem iwith Just Cars is that you have no choice of repairer. This may not be an issue to some of you but when you're paying alot to insure your pride and joy, you want to know that whoever does the repairs will do the best possible job.

I went through this exercise recently as some prick wrecked my rear quarter while the car was parked in the street and never left a note. Had to pay the full excess out MY pocket. So I went to my choice of repairer and got a quote only to be told by Just Cars that I had to get a quote from one of THEIR selected repairers also. Guess who they picked!!!

I have been recommended to H2P Insurance (it is part of the RAA). Prices are pretty much the same as Just Cars but more importantly, you get to choose your repairer.

I believe Shannons also offer choice of repairer still.

i got recommended H2P checked them out and found they were deer and dont think they did pay by the month they did have an ok agreed value though

shannons wouldnt insure me cause we dont have a lockup garage

that left renewing with Just Cars which i really wasnt happy with there agreed value of 16g

so i looked into famous which was talked about by others on this board as being reputable insurer so i went with them a straight cash payment would of seen my insurance @ $700 full comp rating 1 for life but i didnt have the cash so its pay by the month with 10% on top with agreed value of high $21'gs

try vigil, i'm with just cars at the moment but when my policy runs out in december i'll either be trying them or Shannon's. Shannon's will only touch you though if you hardly drive your car and are a car club member etc.

I wish I could change from JCI but noone else wants to insure me at a reasonable rate cos my driving history isn't all that great, even though I've never made a claim or been in an accident. Ah damn speeding fines... I remember Shannons basically told me to get f**ked.

Shannons are the way to go. However I do believe they are pretty strict on under 25's so being 19 you might not be in luck.

If you're going to have a turbo import expect to bent over on either price or policy restrictions with any insurer. If you find one tha is cheap, there will no doubt be a reason for it so make sure you read all the policy clauses.

But if you're interested there is a long winded thread here:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=12142

_8OO5TED_ (Matt) mentioned he worked at Shannons. I contacted him to cover my car and got a good price and flat $500 excess. His role has changed at Shannons so the dude you can contact now (i think still) is GTRSOUL.

his post about it is here:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&p=2284980

- Flat excess

- Pay by the month

- Will still cover you if someone else was driving (higher excess)

etc

I was with Just Cars (who were fine) but after needing to make a claim for a break-in and the excess was 1400+ the decision to change wasn't a hard one.

:)

Yeah i had problems with Shannons they quoted me $2000 a year for just me as a driver and i have a clean driving history, where H2P i am paying $110 per month which is a little easyer to pay then Just car insurances one off payment. As what was said H2P you get to chose your repairer where with Just car your cant, But remember its all good with insurance i would hate to not drive my line without it :)

and BTW always ask lots of Questions like what you are covered for and what your aint and allways make sure you get a Statment of Advice before you chose the insurance policy because if you rush in to it and just sign the dotted line thats how you might get ripped off trust me i used to work in Insurance

I'm surprise some of you guys have had so much trouble with shannons. I'm not in a club or anything, I don't have a lock up garage (only a carport & thats what I told them). Though I didn't have any speeding fines to my name of any sought.

And yes the do give choice of repairer & agreed value, which is always a good thing to have.

    • Well, the NA RB25 is nothing special in terms of the amount of power it makes stock, nor with any easy mods like extractors & exhaust, opening up the intake tract, etc, etc. And just like any small capacity NA engine, getting lots of power out of them takes a fair bit of money and, depending on how far you go with big cams and high compression and so on, quite grumpy to drive. So, boost is the answer. Many many many of them have had a turbo added. This is easy enough. Same as for any engine. Need the things you need to bolt on the turbo of choice, fuel system and management upgrades, clutch, stronger gearbox ( you do not want to run a boost RB25 through the NA box), diff, brakes, etc, etc, same as you would for most other NA+T things. Some much smaller number have had a supercharger added instead. These are good and cool, but have nowhere near the potential of the turbo route. All the same required upgrades apply. So, potential? Anywhere from not much to quite a lot, depending on how much effort and expense you want to go to. Is there value in the effort and expense? Objectively, no, there is not. If you're gaining enjoyment and don't mind blowing a lot of money on the project, then that's where the value is. Parts? Nissan dealers for some. Many many on-line vendors who do Japanese manufacturer spares (buy buying them from disposals at dealers around the world, direct from manufacturers, increasingly from Chinese knockoffs, etc) and warehousing them in Dubai or similar places. Amayama, Partsouk, etc etc. There are quite a few. Some local to Australia, some local to Europe, some local to the US. You can upgrade literally everything. For an NA, unless you're going to boost it, there's little point going past a nice exhaust, as I said above. After that (well, actually probably even before that) you should concentrate on making it handle the best it can, good brake components, light wheels and tyres, and just make it something to enjoy throwing through the curves. You'll never, ever win any drag races, so it needs to be taken as a nice point-to-point car. Throw in some Recaros or Brides, nice Momo wheel and gearknob, so it's pleasant to be in (because god knows, the inside of an R33 is not a pretty place!!) and away you go.
    • How many $$$ do you have to slip cams to logbook a car that’s not the orginal to the 1990 standard lol
    • Thanks for the update I truly appreciate it. I was trying to figure out the sensors.
    • My son recently purchased a 93 Skyline GTS25 (NA), I am hoping to get some insight as to what potential this car has.  I have auto mechanical experience, and I am capable of working on this vehicle, but I know nothing about it.  Where's the best site to purchase parts (maintenance, repair, upgrades)? What kind of upgrades are available?  Thanks again and I look forward to any information that you all have to offer!   Darrick
