were you doing anything to attract attention like a skid, accelerating etc? they are prob just taking a pic so when other cops see you theyll pull you over or something.

Nah dude... I had just dropped my brother off at the train station. I pulled out of the street where the station was and I saw them pull out a few streets up. I then turned left on to Canterbury rd (to get home) that's when they (In Eddie Murphy voice) "wooo wooo pull over". So no illegal acts were being performed... albeit, is blatant victimisation a crime? If not, it should be.

Heh, I've had the same thing.

I went 50 metres from my driveways to the local blockbuster, and got pulled over. I live in a side street, with little tiny round abouts and 'benders' so I never even got out of 2nd gear or went over 20km/hr. They came around the corner and tail gated me, I went into the right turning lane (after blinkering normally) and they lit it up and signalled me to pull over on the left side.

All I got was an extremely agressive female cop who was very rude. She was abrupt and viscious, constantly insinuating that I was lying, that the car was not mine, that I'd hidden 'illegal mods' out of sight, and that they should take the car to impound and 'tear it apart to get another illegal car off the road' In the end, I can only imagine she wanted me to lose it or something. I politely explained that I was doing nothing wrong, and after a breatho, I was 'allowed to leave' I parked at blockbuster, and they parked next to me (Probably to check on the turbo timer, which I had turned off) and were still there when I left.

They followed me home, even parking out the front of my house for 30 mins.

Prior to this, I've had very little police presence in my life, so it's not as if I'm on their radar or anything.

Anyway, I made a report along with the officers name and number to the local station. They were pretty dismissive as soon as I mentioned I drove a skyline.

If it was a merc it'd probably be a different story.

Why not for a magazine, all the cars they wish they had and could drive type mag?

so you know what cars they drive? Comments like that are so stupid its not funny.

FYI, There's a member on SAU who is a copper, and I dont think he'd trade his animal GTR for your S1 R33 :(

is blatant victimisation a crime? If not, it should be.

You said yourself that it was a "random check"...... how did you suddenly become a victim?

The majority of imports on the road have illegal modifications.

If you don't like being pulled over, go buy a car which was sold locally.

If you want to continue driving an import, expect to be pulled over, and learn to deal with it.

I have pink and purple hair and a dozen piercings.....

When I walk into a store, security are on me straight away.

Do I care? Not really..... no point complaining about it.

If you set yourself out from the crowd, you have to expect that you're going to be treated differently.

Gee I don't know, plenty of other cars driving by and around me, very busy time of day, and they happend to pull me over, you tell me that I wasn't a victim. I use the term "random" very loosely. It IS blatant victimisation, don't come preaching to me. We all know it. I've dealt with it for a number of years and will continue to deal with it, but, if I want to express my feelings towards being victimised and my general distaste for the Victorian Police, I will.

And having driven both imported and local cars I don't need to tell you where my loyalties lie.

Anyhoo... weren't we talking about photos?

I personally don't know why they would have taken photo's and can't think of any reason in a random or not so random intercept. There is no new data base or similar that I know of with taking pictures of cars. I only take a picture of a car for evidence reasons damage after accident or similiar.

For one it would definitely not be jealousy as at my work we have guys with XR8, FPV, XR6T, Forrester GT and my GTR. Even the most hardened V8 fans at work comment on my car in a positive way.

You complain about being a victim for being intercepted frequently imagine how many times you would be checked driving a VL Commodore if you worked in bakery or similiar. Obviously police check imports as many do have illegal modifications and police also check thousands of VL/Laser/TX5 etc that are frequently stolen.

If you are such a victim have you been EPA/NOU because I'm sure if I wanted to, I could find reason(s)to put almost everyone's car of road so if you haven't stop complaining.

I'll be the first to say and not for the first time that EPA, NOU for minor issues should not be given to people not causing any other offences at time because they are huge punishment and law abiding people should not be hassled for making their cars perform/handle better.

A system has been developed for use on Australian roads that scans a car for the number plate in a similar way to facial recognition. The police set up a camera and it scans vehicles for the plate number then references that number against a list of stolen, defected or whatever database they run. What they may have been doing is adding your cars "face" to the database...or they might be enthusiasts or...any of the conspiracy theories above. I tend to think it is more likely to be one of the conspiracy theories.

I thank you for your comment; at least we can get some insight into this. Albeit it still puzzles me.

I have owned VL's VH's and the likes, so I do know and understand the difficulties which in tales driving one.

Being a law abiding citizen whose last fine/speeding ticket was over 5 years ago, for a matter of 4km's over the speed limit, I think I have the right to complain about, I won't call it 'harassment', but the annoyance which occurs whilst out on the road. I hate the fact that every time I see a marked or unmarked Police Car for that matter, I prepare myself for what seems the inevitable.

I understand that the police have a job to do, but it just seems that a little more could be done to attract a little bit of harmony between "us" and the POL-ICE. :)

May I just note that my feelings towards the Police are not entirely stemmed from road issues but also from personal issues dealing with them. And I'm sure it's like with every large group/organisation/industry/populous, you're always going to get a few who are loose cookies. But my feelings towards them remain as a collective.

A casual observation from an interstate guy that just got Vic rego.

You guys dont have to get yearly road worthy inspections. So it seems the Police assume some of the responsibility for ensuring the cars are roadworthy, along with EPA etc in random inspections.

If you get one a year, then hey, thats fine to me. But honestly, feel sorry for Vic Police, i doubt many joined the service to ensure cars are roadworthy...shouldnt that be the job of Vic Roads etc.

Also, ppl shoudlnt fear the police, they should have an open mind to an officer approaching them. I had a recent instance with an officer and striclty speakign i was doing plenty wrong, but the reaility was it was a very nonsense offence. I had the feeling i was going to get the book, but when i spoke to fella like a human being i got off with what i think was kinda fair.

They shoudl fear the courts...the Police should have to have offences over a certain penalty value heard in court...i wonder if so many fines would be handed out if they had to be heard by a magistrate?

Ok, so I just received my EPA notice in the mail... as predicted. Don't asshole cops have anything better do with their spare time, seriously! f**king cops! Note to everyone out there... when pulled over, shut your car off straight away so no asshole pig can hear your exhaust!

I'm sick of it! I do nothing wrong and I get harassed! Well the next pig who pulls me over better look out! I've had it up to my neck with their bullshit! :(:P:/

Yeah that sux arse bud, remember my old R32, the silver one. The f**kers went to town on that, thats why i De-reged it and sold it to a dude in Tasmania coz of all the mods there was no way EPA was gonna pass it aftermarket turbo ect.

I went through a booze bus, all was fine, then the last cop in the line decided to pull me over to the side to go through the car. they got some other copper out and took heaps of pics.

FU*KERS

RIP R32 Sedan

Yeah man... I loved that thing! The noise that it made! I might need to borrow a standard exhaust if you have access to one... I'll give ya a buzz in the next few days. Cheers!

oh the topic on cops its never ending, when i had my r33 i got pulled over one night as they say "random breath test" (that sentence makes me wanna punch a sleeping baby ) anywhoo the officer came and i was being very polite as i was talking to him. Then another cop came and this one was a real ass*ole. I mean i wasnt doing anything bad but i can see that i had something that he didnt like. So they done a whole search of my car, opend my bonet, boot etc etc. In the end i got a canary for having my battery in the boot ("it could leak, go to the speakers and into my fuel tank" wtf has he been smoking)and having my exaust lower than 10 cm ( i was at a angle, he didnt let me park on a straight line)

NOTE: they done nothing about my cooler and air intake system, my electronic boost controller,my bov,my gauges,i mean seriously is hes gona pick me on those things then i can be a doctor :)

so what did i do? i kept my mouth shut which is what i advise everybody to do, what ever they pick on you dont fight them just agree and be quiet. Then i went to my complience guy and got a booklet about skylines and where the battery is etc etc (factory wise its in the boot) as for the exaust i had tein adjustable suspension that was the hardest suspenion i have ever seen even with a full car load the car didnt sink, my car was actually 11.5cm off the ground

so what did i do i got those things together with the fine and went to a police station after about 30minute talking to the chief officer he apologized for the inconvinience and cancelld the fine i had to pay

so in the end guys.just keep your mouth shut and always be friendly, trust me i wanted to tell them to go home and pick another carier all it is,its just time consuming to proove them wrong

p.s as for the epa, well nobody can help you with that :) you just gota pay and move on bl dude
