Leaving Job

Hopefully some of you guys will have been through this before, so could you share some experience??

Ok, so I just informed my employers of one of my jobs that I won't be with them for much longer. What needs to be done paperwork wise?

I was using this job as my primary income job, so it get's taxed the least out of the ones I have.. I don't want to get taxed at a very high rate at my new one if you know what I mean. Do I need to get a group cert for tax adjustments at the end of this financial year? What about super?

Is there anything else I'm missing??

Hand in your letter of resignation.

Read your agreement though, it will state how much notice you are required to give.

1-2-3-4 weeks is around the time most require

Your primary job will have the tax free threshold claimed im assuming.

All you do once you leave, is then tell your new primary employer you would like to "claim the tax free threshold" with them, and they will change you over.

It doesnt really matter if you dont, you'll just get taxed more each pay, but come tax return time you'll get a lump sum payment.

I dont claim it, and i get around a 5k tax return each year

Tax - i assume you have an accountant already? If not, i know just the man for you

Super, i assume you know what super your with? You can either send them a letter or call them.

And you will need to provide details of where you want your super account you want it t be "rolled into".

What R31Nismoid has said and the employer you have resigned from will send you a group cert at the end of financial year 30 June 2007, so if you move address in the mean time, notify them!!

its not hard.

I have many jobs and all I do is get a resignation letter (btw there is a eb site to fill them out easily ) and put on it the time when you want to go...forget your contract for the minute.

Then when u give it to them, if they agree you go when you want. MOst people with real jobs need to give 4 weeks but I have never stayed longer than 3.

THey will talk to you about the date, if they think its a big deal just do whatever they say inline with your employment agreement, you dont want to upset them too much cos u never know when u may meet again.

Always thank them for the oppatunity and tell them the new job is helping you achieve your goals blah blah...try not t bag people out...or say to your boss she is a dumb bitch with no idea...haha I have the refrain every day.

I would not do it...as a boss its obvious and really pisses you off. Try and keen on OK relationship with ur boss, u might need them for a reference later or they may turn up again - u never know.

Seriously I am sure what has been said above is dam good advise. Also speak to an financial advisor or at least get one to help roll over ur super. Good luck with future employment...

Wow you must be important at your workplace, thats crazy.

Its about the only time its good to be a casual worker. I had a guy a few weeks ago give two weeks notice, then just walk out after the first 5 mins of his shift saying "i cant be f@$ked any more".

Then he rang up looking for a reference!!

When I was working casual many years ago and the company was pissing me off and giving me all the crap shifts, so I just didnt bother turning up 1 week. When they called me and asked where I was I told them 'I quit' on the phone and that was the end of it.

Yeah mate no notice needed if youre casual, so walk out at the start of the day if you dont care...

If you do care then it would be nice to give them 2 weeks notice (or however far ahead the rosters are done).

when i worked for jeans west , the tossers done the smart thing, instead they jsut cut back my shifts wk after wk and eventually never called me up.

so i got revenge at my next place, i walked in told them after 5yrs (i started when i was 15) that i've had enough of the shitty hours and wanna leave, so took my apron of and put it on the bench at the end of the shift and never went back.

If your casual or doing a traineeship Im sure you can ring them and just fax the letter of resignation so you dont have to see them.

I worked at this shithole helpdesk for pharmacies for 4 weeks and couldnt heck it, so I rang em and told them I wish to quit, they asked me to bring them a formal letter with my resignation, I asked if I can fax it... went to my old employer (got my old job back which I loved) and faxed it from there

some employers can be sh1t. I've been trying to find another one but haven't got a chance to get interviews... nothing too much wrong with mine except that we're a bit underpaid compared to the rest of the industry and for some how they got away to classify us as clerical admin until last month rather than IT (we do data processing - please doesn't that compute to you as IT?) - nevertheless I've been with the current work for over 4 years, and have seen other people come and go. just waiting to "cash off" my overdue annual leave for 6 weeks then after that it may be my turn of luck to change for a better career...

When I quit myer - because I was a casual, they only needed 1 or 2 days notice before my next shift.
