Hello,

Ive had my gtt for around three months now and most of the members of my household cannot drive turbo cars. So here i am sitting here thinking why the F*** did i buy a turbo!!

Without selling the entire car, is there any way the turbo can be blocked or taken off so that it runs as a six NA?

If i cannot do this than is anyone interested in trading a Gt-t R34 for the NA four door :)

Thanks guys

no it is still classified as a turbocharged car, even if you pull the turbocharger off. the compliance plate, rego and papers all will say gtt turbocharged so it wont matter. why cant they drive it? over power the weight rule for their age?

well did u buy the car for them or for you? why do u worry about everyone else in your house so much?

I worry, because there is four of them who cannot drive it...

The four of them are on their P's and in sydney cannot drive her

Im pretty deadset on doing it, but you've just answered my question in one.. thanks

Hey Mate,

Isn't it legal to drive a turbo if it's your "only" family car? Just sign off your other cars to trusted family members (even though they still yours, no one will know) and that way your kids can drive it.

I'm not 100% sure if the family car exemption is still available double check...

dude its your car..... did u pay for it ?

I can totally understand what your saying, but the plus's far outway the minus's .

Yes i paid for it, all $28, 000

Im also not the father of the family, im only ninteen, im refering to my 3 brothers and 1 sister. Yes, its insured

de turboing a skyline is like puttin a gtr engine in a mustang, should never be done yet alone thought of. but i do however understand your predicament, i would do as nizmoid suggested and keep the skyline for yourself :)

Tell them to buy there own f*kkin cars lol. Asif make your car crapper (which you cant do anyways) for them to drive it! You must be a really nice guy to consider that... but no lol

just buy a shitbox for 2k

$500per person

problem solved

Very good idea!

i think i have the solution for you

ill trade u my 1996 hyundai lantra for it - its definately non-turbo - fun for your whole family! i know its not an equal trade so... throw in a few hundred for me too.

if you deturboed the car, would they neccesarily wish to drive it? Aside from diggin into your personal business like everyone else, to de-turbo the car, you would need to transplant in a non-turbo engine, or the essential non-turbo parts from a non-turbo r34 - these are very rare and therefore expensive. You'd probably be best off selling the car, even if you did 'modify' the engine, it may still be registered as turboed, and if not, the car will be 'modified' and possibly therefore illegal anyways.

ok, well the problem with de-turboing a turbo motor is that the internals aren't like a non-turbo motor. they are designed to have less compression (the boost makes up the difference). this means that if you de-turbo it it will have less power than a non-turbo motor.

it would be easier to sell the car and get a non turbo car. to remove the turbo you would have to get a new manifold, block all the turbo water and oil lines lines, get a new exhaust (if it has a 3", since a 3" on a n/a car would be extremely noisey, and actually reduce the power output), and probably retune the computer to alter the timing.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
