hi there,

I'm looking at a very nice stagea to buy very soon, i'm convinced, but the missus' is only 90% convinced hehe... (which means nothing)

but to keep her happy, i was wondering if there are any SA Stagea owners that would be willing to let us have a look at their pride and joy and maybe take us for a quick lap around the block?

If something this sunday (12th / nov ) could be arranged that would be awesome

Thanks guys hopefully can work something out :(

-Matt

I'm happy for you to come and check out my series 2 (1999) stagea if you like (its not for sale though).

Its pearl white, tiptronic auto with shift kit (faster shifts), and has the rb25det neo (same as r34 skyline).

In stock form I think the s1 has about 100awkw and the s2 something like 120awkw?

Fuel economy is generally around 13-14L/100km in town, the s2 being slightly more economical than the s1.

Currently mine has:

-3" stainless exhaust (turbo-back)

-garrett gt30 turbo (stock is gt28)

-Apexi SAFC

-Apexi panel air filter

-shift kit (aka "valve body upgrade") for auto trans.

-boost controller (search '$22 boost controller' in these forums)

and that equates to 170rwkw (approx 150awkw) at 9psi. Stock boost is 5-6 psi.

My fuel economy is actually BETTER than when it was stock - and I average 12.5L/100km city driving. :)

But yeah the best way to find out for sure if its right for you is to test drive one.

If you're after a wagon then I can safely say you wont find a better value wagon than a series 1 stagea. The handling, performance, quality and driving experience are in my opinion better than any other wagon (or even many sedans) for the same money.

My reasons for buying my s2 were basically that its got the same engine, turbo and gearbox as an r34 skyline and that I needed more space/doors than an r34 skyline. I wanted the newer version, tiptronic, less kms, slightly more powerful engine. So its a practical wagon with all the good bits from a skyline. And with a few mods (you could easily get the same power as mine with the stock turbo) it can go like a skyline too. :)

Hope you manage to convince the missus. My missus didn't need much convincing so that made things easy for me. :D

Good luck :)

hope you enjoyed the trip down south and the look-see was worth it.

was our pleasure to meet you both. ally and I enjoyed the chat & the great company!

now, tell us all a little more about this black S2 ? pics next week plz :)

haha definitely!!!

thanks again for the generosity guys, appreciate it. good to meet you both, and looks like we might meet up this saturday on a cruise/shoot or something (have to check SA section i think)

look forward to catching up again

thanks again brendon and steve

no probs. :)

was nice to meet you and we very much enjoyed chatting to you both.

Always glad to "show off" my stag.

btw check the SA section for the latest on the photoshoot. looks like a change of day and venue to what was originally planned. Check the thread titled "photoshoot" somewhere on the first 2 pages in the SA section...

I should still be able to make it. :P

There are a couple of official cruises next month. 9th December is the "cruise for a cause" gold coin donation for the lukemia foundation (i believe the pulsar club will also be attending part or all of this cruise - which is fine with me). Then sometime in december also is a bbq/cruise planned but details aren't finalised yet... :)

Obviously check the SA section for official details... :P

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.
    • My apologies, I stand corrected. Thanks for registering to mention this! And thank you for actually reaching out to the council to clarify. This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance. I shall try and do better in the future. (Please stick around to get the latest scoops on dealing with old Nissan shitboxes )
    • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
