Ok.

A few weeks back I noticed my standard r33 tacho went crazy.

It works fine on idle (shows 800rpm) but as soon as you rev the engine it goes up a little and then suddenly drops to 400rpm.

Cruzing around its sits around 1000rpm but when I thrash it, it goes up to 2000rpm, even tho its really 5000-6000rpm.

Anyone help me please.

Thanks.

skylines seam reknown for tachos dying. my tacho went crazy too. not like yours though. mine just darts from left to right sometimes between 1000 and 4000, sometimes 6000 to 8000. completely eratic. i just bought a cheap tacho from autobarn $120 bucks 3 3/4 inch drift neo. sits perfect infront of the old one. didnt want a 5 inch and not sure if a 4inch would fit in the instrument cluster.

would probably cost more to buy a new instrument cluster or to have this one looked at. was gonna be $50 just to look at it. then if they couldnt fix it your out of pocket 50 bucks and you still have to buy a tacho. plus if you put it back in the same spot u cant get canaried for it.

Latest update.

Driving home the other night. The tacho started working but was out by about 500rpm.

Next day it stoped again, but then after 40mins of driving it started working. Still 500rpms out.

Today. Not working again.

It seems to work after a long drive + rev it out.

Where is the connection to the engine? or does it just go into the computer?
