Would you like to tell me what is wrong then??

Maybe i could change it to

Most of the Japanese tuning shops (HKS, Jun, Toda, Tomei, OS Giken, APexi, Veilside etc) buy a majority of their hard engine parts (piston, rods, camshafts, crankshafts, valves, valve springs, bolts etc) from manufacturers like JE, Carillo, ARP, Total Seal, Ross, TRW, Crane, Del West, Iskanderian, Harrop etc They just stick them in their boxes and double the price. There is nothing wrong or inferior about buying stuff from the original manufacturer.

Just say what you want to say please, I might learn something by it.

The point of the comment was that MOST japanese tuning shops OUTSOURCE a lot of their products, and in some cases, all of their products are outsoursed.

Firstly, I will grant you the pleasure of admitting I was wrong about TODA, OS and JUN. Although I was under the impression from both TODA and JUN, that they did not manufacture their own valve springs. I may have gone over board when i listed the Names, but i was mostly correct, bar a couple.

I may have left out TRUST, but I also left out a few others, but big deal, like that matters, I said ETC at the end, people get the drift normally.....

HKS DO NOT make CAMS, PISTONS, TURBOS or RODS. Veilside only manufacture body parts, but sell engine components. APexi also manufacture a small amount of what they sell. Tomei as well, as you said.

I also NEVER said that all of those Japanese Names outsourse everything, but they do outsourse certain things in particular. Never said the whole catalogue was outsoursed.

Your post also seems like an advertisement to me, like you are trying to shoot down TRUST/GReddy, by saying they manufacture nothing what-so-ever, but at the same time Championing your own product

Granted, I have learnt something from this, but basically what I was saying is correct, bar a few of the Names. Many of the names make it very hard to find out if what they sell is made by them, so an assumption must be made about some things.

Hi TODA AU, before I get into this post, let me first say I have used a set of Toda "C" camshafts in one of our race cars and the results were very impressive. I have nothing against Toda products. Secondly, I am happy to be corrected and improve my knowledge, after all that's why I come here.

The challenge, I will buy a Toda retail products catalogue and then visit the Toda manufacturing facilities in Japan you nominate. If I can not find any parts made or designed outside (by a sub contractor or another manufacturer) I will pay for the trip. Plus I will publish such favourable results, wherever I can. If I find one part in the catalogue made outside (by a sub contractor or another manufacturer) you will pay for the trip.

PM me if you want to go ahead.

Having an in-house manufacturing capability means there are no compromises in design or manufacturing. Product testing is carried using advanced analytical software, engine bench testing (engine dyno), and race testing.

It takes a huge amount of resources to be a one stop shop for a large range of components. Congrats to TODA if they have the ability to do this... however i dont see there being a problem with many Japanese manufacturers carrying out R&D on parts, then sub contracting the manufacture to a specialist company who does nothing but "insert piston/rod/turbo etc, etc"

The premium they often charge is for their intellectual property, or simply because they can, i have no problem with a company trying to be profitable.

The no compromises is a pretty big statement, as there are always compromises with the manufacture of parts, whether it be weight v strength, price v materials, performance v life of part.

Perhaps its not fair to be so critical of such a statement , but its not realy fair to insinuate that outsourcing manufacture is a compromise.

Again my hat off to TODA for doing everything in house, but personal experience in the engineering game (albeit not automotive) is that specialist companies are specialist for a reason, they are good at what they do.

The cost of equipment, training, maintenance, testing, validation, research, marketing, sales etc often restricts a company's ability to both 'design' AND 'manufacture'.

So if i put a TODA sticker on my car, can i get some pistons???

I been to a factory that they made JE piston, few month ago because my friend wana get dealer ship from them .... guess if any of you are interested may be i can help to arrange it.. As far as i know is the price are about 1300 at cost for 6 with ring. They say that they will made it if we provide them the detail of the piston... We can get it cheap if we get a few set.
