Hi Ladies/Gents

I want to buy my wife a decent camera. She has always wanted to take up photography so would like to get her a decent camera.

One issue I have NO IDEA about cameras!

My budget is $1200 (AUD) but offcourse the less I spend the more I get to spend on my car

I suppose I would be very grateful for anyone with experience that can steer me in the right direction. Taking into account the budget and I would like in the budget to include a 2Gb Card and suitable Len(s) for daily shots.

Here are some EBay Links I am looking at.

Cybershot R1

K100

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Pentax-K100D-Digita...1QQcmdZViewItem

D50

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nikon-D50-SLR-Twin-...1QQcmdZViewItem

D70

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NIKON-D70-Digital-S...1QQcmdZViewItem

Any information would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Brandon

Out of the ones you chose, D70 would be the best bet

In the end, stick to Canon or Nikon

Not sure if you noticed, but the guy selling the D70 has 0 feedback, so I'd be weary of buying it from him.

You're better off paying a little more and buying it from a store locally so that if something goes wrong, the warranty is easy to deal with, if you buy from ebay, it's usually from Hong Kong, and I know that Canon Australia won't want anything to do with it, I'm not sure how Nikon warranty works.

Problem is, $1200 is a very tight budget for what you're asking, realistically in that price range, a D50 with the kit lens (17-55?), or a 350d again with the kit lens is probably more plausible.

Or, you could forget all that, and buy a top of the range Point and Shoot camera, the Canon Powershot G7 or the Powershot S3 IS

Thanks darK.

I think I am going for a D50 with Lens Kit. From reading the D50 came out after the D70 and has a few refined things. Majority of articles state it is a good entry point SLR.

Found a place locally for $1000 for D50 + lens kit

Thanks darK.

Awesome

Have fun with it!!

Can I ask where you found it for that price?

Thx everyone but I ended getting the Nikon D50. I did a lot of reading and it is a good entry point SLR Camera that will keep her busy. Gave it to her last night and she loves it but now ... constant questions

"how do you do this ... ?" oh know :)
