Hi there ...

I see, your grill is not exactly SMIC friendly

No wonder you switched over to the FMIC.

If it wasn't for the good price I would have gone for the FMIC myself but I want to gain experience with the car step by step.

So the R34 SMIC seemed like something reasonable to start from. Cheap, easy to fit and modest gains (?)

(especially with the standard turbo)

My car is 99% stock and right now I'm just aiming at stage I tuning.

As for the R32 actuator I agree, however these are hard to find (I keep looking though)

Cheers and good nite ;)

No, you will not mate the R33 and R34 turbos are much the same except for a slightly larger exhaust housing on the R34. So unless you upgrading your turbo keep the stock GTT cooler. Its a good unit and you wont loose any throttle response to that of a large frontmount.

always good to see these cheep mods work.

cheers

I would like to do this mod. Are there other things i need for the upgrade (eg hosing & pipes of a different size) or can i use the existing ones on my stock r33?

Hi!

.. it's a straight plug in replacement (at least with my R33S2) ...

Everything fits except that the unit is a bit thicker/deeper so you might have to adjust the plastic mud guard a bit.

R34vsR33Smic

i have installed 34 cooler on my ceffy and on my 33 much happier than any front mount i have ever run all thou my power has never exceeded 220, had front mounts fitted on my 180 and both 32's made them feel so much heavier obviously lag but not a good feeling. !

big ups to 34smic =)

  • 1 year later...

I have a 3" catback with K&N pod stock everything and did this mod this morning. Fitted in about 20 minutes tops. I had no plastic guard on the front of the cooler.

Im sure its just me, but the boost comes on alot smoother and I think maybe higher in the RPM range now. I guess things are going to lag a tiny bit more compared to a smaller intercooler and this is more of a mod to cool the air down rather than to boost HP.

Once I go do the boost solenoid mod in a minute im sure the power will change a bit. Next mods are boost gauge, RB20 10psi actuator, split aftermarket dump, hi-flow cat, CAI and SAFCII. Then that will have to do me as I want the R33 as a daily... and my EB Fairmont is the car I want to make go really fast for weekends/wednesdays =)

Wow what a difference $40 worth of intercooler and 5 minutes worth of boost solenoid modification makes... just took it for a spin around the block. I think higher psi lower in the rev range is better because I don't like revving the crap out of the engine, but I want the boost down low. I think I'm going to try set the skyline up for responsiveness and mid-rpm power.

    • Yeah I'm happy to talk to whoever, I don't want to take ownership or even manage it if they don't want but I can probably help with hosting on the sau setup. It's a great resource and should be protected.
    • So, got some bits..   New oil filter housing gasket (main problem I'm trying to fix -see leak above)  While you're in there's: New belts, pulley and tensioners.  Vanos oil line New oil drain valve New water pump and pulley  New fumoto valve (all my cars have these). Some of this stuff seems ok now that I've pulled it out but I still have no idea how old it all is.  The belts looked fine and then I noticed this. Like somebody has hooked it with a pick.
    • As the title suggests, Looking for some comfortable replacement seats that will suit/fit an R32 GTR. Purely road use.  Happy to travel to the Tweed, Gold Coast and Brisbane area. Possibly Sunshine Coast for the right seats. Show me what you got! Thanks in advance.
    • Customer states,I got an oil leak.  Customer was raht.
    • Hi friends, I recently got myself back into an R32 GTR with factory seats. The seats themselves are in excellent condition but the drivers seat is a bit tight for my back and become uncomfortable after about 20min of driving. The passenger seat is a little better so I'm not sure what is going on there, almost as if the drivers seat is newer and has not been worn in.  Anyway, I'm looking to replace them with something thats going to be comfortable for road use.  I was looking at these replica seats from Crank Motorsport however there has been a number of reviews of the company that aren't great so i'm a little skeptical.  https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185466689021?_skw=r32+GTR+front+seats&itmmeta=01JKS72VG115M2Y3KBGCBCWYDD&hash=item2b2ead15fd:g:cMAAAOSwhhZlsIpK&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKl6v17FmqPFPHrHp4kFm2I9VMAXrpZg5R8sUXH6QLUAkliQu34NiG%2F84PJ05lKf2iGboUiWpWbvHYPYKsT154rul3I%2FaGRskpG8VfgyrwC9%2BdRj7uoDAPGJH%2FVprfvd6pgAN2XmUz6buE9YHvOPCKhtJfsQXhEzwgmVTcIwEkkV0A1r%2FkyJYMmQK0OKLI%2FrM%2FQLzeAOkN9B6WLAPrNyFlml%2FkG%2BYzkTXGJ8LN%2B0NCSLfczQGSYeJqPfvMFMgDL2gOD%2BPWb3sX1D1A6PxY5jqyMGey7zin4sDqrUrA7CpqLLpA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMmriLp55l I also live In the Northern Rivers and these seats are in Melbourne so I can't even try them out before purchase.  Is there anywhere/anyone around the Gold Coast, Tweed or Brisbane area that would have a decent selection of seats I could test out before purchase. A lot of these places seem to be in Sydney and Brisbane. Maybe there's an individual who has an after market item such as Bride or Recaro I could quickly try? Thanks in advance!
