Hi there, I've searched the website but just found posts on which ones brands are good, panal vs pod etc..

I understand what pod air filters are now, and Skyline uses panel air filters as stock.

I was just wondering if I wanna get a pod filter, how do I install it and if I wanna change the panel air filter, how to do install that as well..

cuz i opened my bonnet today and I can't find a place to put a pod air filter.

Thank you guys!

(...and girls..)

p/s- are pod air filters illegal? i read some mentions of us getting defected by the cops if pulled over n they got us to open the bonnet

- if you get a pod filter. youve gta replace your stock airbox. basically take it all out and leave the air flowmeter. then you jus bolt on your new pod to the air flow meter & mount the air filter stable. (assuming its bolt on, or u may need an adapter. apexi power intake is the popular choice for a pod & its bolt on)

- if you wana change panel filter. just lift the top lid and replace with the correct model air filter and whatever brand you intend to put in. (k&n hi flow panel filter the popular choice for panels)

- pod filters are illegal in NSW. unless enclosed. other states may vary.

hope that helps mate

In case that's not clear enough the standard airbox has four spring clips on the sides.Just flick them back and the top will lift off.You can then lift out the old panel and drop in the new one.Piece of cake.Just make sure you put in in the same way up.

what state are you in? different rules for different states. in vic you can have only one intake mod, either an aftermarket intercooler or an aftermarket pod. if you get a pod it must be of a paper base type not oil based like the k&n pods. it must be secured cant have it floppin around and you cant take out the air flow meter.

if you look at your air box you will see the air flow meter (afm) its the thing running into it with the plug hanging off it. id post you a pic but its not working for me. it bolts onto the air box with 4 bolts. the air box its self is held in with 4 bolts too. if you want to put a pod in remove the bolts to the air box first then undo the hose clamp that attaches the afm to the rubber pipe thing. once you have done that you can pull out the whole air box with the afm attached to it. unbolt the afm from the box, bolt on your pod, slide the afm back into the rubber pipe thing do up the hose clamp and your basicaly done. you just need to secure it so it doesnt flop around which can be done any way you want.

or unclip the clips pull out the panel filter and put a new one in then do up the clips

(this is for an r33 by the way but im guessing a 34 is the same)

(not very well) you may have the snorkel for the air box still on. it just unclips. make sure when you buy a pod it comes with a plate like mine i think if you say its for a skyline it may come with it but not sure didnt buy mine came on the car.

Oh dear.Well at least you're not scared to ask.Aftermarket simply means not standard. The intercooler is what cools the hot air from the turbo before it goes into the engine. It's like a radiator but the intake air passes through it instead of your engine coolant.Scuse the rofl's but it really is a funny question.

A non-turbo car does not use a intercooler.

We all have to start somewhere mate, most of the ppl on here unless from a mechanical background or with ppl to ask wouldnt of know what alot of things were or ment when they first started out. Its what being a car enthuisist is all about, its all a learning curve.

as the old saying goes, ' There is no such thing as a dumb question '

Also with a pod filter, its always best to try and enclose it, so it doesnt suck all the hot air from under the bonnet into the engine. Also try have some sort of cold air coming from outside the car (CAI - Cold Air Intake), as this will aid in actually having the pod filter in the first place.

Oh yeah one thing to watch if you do go for a cold air intake duct is not to run it too low.Can suck up water if you hit puddles. Not good. One mod that some people have done with success is to holesaw some holes in the steel beneath the standard air box and cut matching holes in the plastic.Easy, cheap and no defect notices.

Acer is right. We all gotta start somewhere and none of us know everything.Cheers.

    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
    • Yeah - My key still does the chime thing. I followed the procedure but it didn't activate on the (identical) third set of keyfob that I had. I vaguely remember the alarm saying you can only pair two keys with it. Now that I've dug it up, it appears that you very much can pair keyfobs to the alarm system. (which are the fobs I use to unlock the car). I have successfully diverted the thread and can probably not use the OEM keyfob ever again unless I use the aftermarket alarm and attempt to pair the OEM keyfob to it. Which might just work, or not :D. I definitely used the nissan method and not the aftermarket alarm method.
    • What makes it worse is that Nissan made keys in the same style, for example R34 and Stagea, but they work at different frequencies or something like that. So they look the same but the remotes are not interchangeable. I learned that from some guy selling aftermarket blank keys.
    • Does your door chime work when you have the key in the lock and open the door? I've had that disabled because it's f**king annoying and it is one thing that messes with the pairing. Because now the car doesn't detect key in ignition anymore and the slide-key-in-and-out sequence does not trigger the pairing mode anymore. The service manual has a section on the various bits involved in doing the syncing. I presume it'll be similar between Stagea and R34.
    • Agree, but meh, I think is is based more on LOLS than actually apples to apples, like, who would have thunk a turbo 4 cylinder would not beat a NA 4 cylinder  I think with just basic N/A mods, like a exhaust and tune, it would be equal to the Mini in its current form, maybe I know my current 2.5 would "chop the mini" as the midrange now has a night and day difference in power delivery compared to the tuned 2.0, by around 20kwatw and 30nm from around 2k rpm "ish"....... I'm kinda hoping that they do a N/A build, either with the MZR 2.0 or with whatever they decide to use If I recall correctly they did talk about K swapping one a while ago
