The next Winton Fun Day is scheduled for Sunday December 17th 2006.

The usual format applies:

Cost:

Is $25 per driver and $25 per passenger

Programme:

Normally be there by 8.00 for scrutineering, but this can take some time.

Drivers Briefing at around 9.00 - 9.30

Driver only on track for 30 minutes sighting laps, then

Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then

Driver only on track for 30 minutes, then

Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then

Driver only on track for 30 minutes, and so on all day until about 4.30

Requirements:

Bring your car, an Australian Standard Approved helmet, the helmet can be either open or closed face, fire proof clothes that cover you from neck to ankle to wrist (cotton or wool clothes are good). Runners are not the preferred footwear, Blundstones boots (or similar) or any leather type shoe is preferable

Make sure your car has no oil/coolant leaks, fitted seat belts, battery is secure, wheels nuts are tights, no loose items in the car or boot.

The Car does not have to be registered, but has to road/race worthy. There are normally no checks done of lights except for brake lights except if it is an overcast, rainy day, then there may be checks for lights as well as wipers.

And very importantly, bring a smart, alert attitude, coz there is some very fast cars out there, whilst it is not a race meeting, some people bring race cars and the onus is on them to behave appropriately around first timers.

Food and drinks are available through a canteen

Also we will be less tolerant of people who breach the rules this time, due to some lard-heads last time - sorry everyone!

Hey All,

Ive been to this twice in my old R31 and it is so worth it. Always watch your mirrors though as I was nearly rear ended once by someone that didnt slow down for the yellow flag.

Still deciding whether to take the GTR or not this time, my pass list would definately skyrocket though :D

Cheers!

do these "fun" days happen often? Im keen to try out my car, but I dont think its ready yet (coolant is going somewhere, have to sort that out and other problems).

Is there one at sandown happening soon?

Winton run 3 Fun Days per year, the next one is in January 2007 (check the Winton website for the exact date)

Sandown don't run these sort of days, in fact I am very sure that Winton is the only race track who does this.

One thing i dont' understand is why WINTON run pratice day on a FRIDAY? Why not weekend but on a working day?

Probably because weekends are booked for club days, etc
Absolutely spot on Al, Winton's weekends are booked almost 12 months in advance, they have race meetings, v8's, drifts, club days etc, etc, ets. The intent of the practice days was to give the weekends competitors exta time on the track, but Winton being who they are have opened the days up to the general public, but still people complain. Tell me where else, or what other race tracks do this!
Winton is definitely not open to the public on Friday nights, but it is open to the public most Fridays.

oh - my bad. Must have mistaken it when I read the stuff on one of the websites. Most Fridays during the day right?

    • Pete knows these cars well, he does my car too, if he was concerned about the traction arm length for your use he would have said so. Do you have adjustable bushes in that arm, maybe he got enough adjustment there (or maybe the bump steer was not material for your use of the car)
    • Hmm. Yes. I should have been clearer. 1000s for Haltech, for extra headroom. 725s for Nistune. You might even be OK with 640s, but if the possible power ends up much more than 300 rwkW you will run out of headroom on the 640s. That would probably be OK and a signal to not push it to that sort of power with Nistune anyway. At that level you probably do want to be thinking about engine protection functions. Oh, and all of that presumes 98 only, not E85. Well....the 1000s would allow you to run E85 at ~300rwkW territory, again, maybe sort of running out of headroom. Hard to tell with E85 - depends on the tuner as to how rich they like to set it up.
    • Yes.  The only scenario I can imagine when the answer isn't yes, is if you drive like there is highway patrol behind you at all times.  If your car currently runs, enjoy it and keep saving. Better costs more, keep saving until you can budget the better ECU. It's worth it.  Nope. Plenty of us making >300kw on unopened motors. Mine is unopened and makes about 350kw if I turn everything up, its fine (lots of caveats here, how the car will be used/abused, how long you expect the engine to last between rebuilds, how has the engine been maintained prior to coming into your ownership, etc etc).
    • Sorry just wanting to clarify, at this power goal, which should I be going? Also, More info regarding suspension, the rear upper camber arms were used to get the camber back to i believe around -0.5 ~ -1 degree (@ Road and Race in Rydalmere), I forgot the exact figure, but ALOT less camber than what it came originally which was like -2.5degrees. Are the traction arms still recommended? The bilsteins from SydneyKid, they've got 400lb/in fronts & 275/in in the rear, revalved to his specs. Intercooler, I'm just having a look at some on Rakuten.jp and some other japanese sites. Might get something from back there, GReddy, Blitz or HPI, all crossflow. Looking at roughly $450-$500 AUD + shipping... Theres not many choices except that chinese branded Justjap unless you go for blitz return flow. Yeah, only downside with Haltech is the price ahhaha, so expensive, and with all the sensors if I go that route... $$$$$ yeesh. Are headstuds/gaskets needed for <300akw?
