Thats an awesome idea mate, really appriciate the offer.

This could be an interesting thing for all to witness, there are 3 main pulls id want to see if possible. firstly a low speed (20 or 30kmh) flat stick pull in 2nd. Secondly a 50kmh pull in 3rd, squeeze the lemon with the throttle and come on gradually, just to see how it comes on boost, and finally a similar run in 4th gear yet of a higher speed, say 80kmh and a firm yet not WOT squeeze.

Hopefully this sort of evidence will help everyone in deciding if this turbo is for them :P

And also if you could post up a quick run down of your cars mods yet with exact turbo specs (only if thats not asking too much ofcoarse hehe)

Hmm I don't know you are targetting the right kind of car with those gears and speeds - EVOs run shorter gears targetted for those kind of speeds, and the STOCK EVO turbo setup targets those speeds as well.... a GT3076R targets much much higher flow levels than a stock TD05 so even on a bigger motor its a pretty cruel comparison haha. I can guarantee you now a GT3076R (or GT2835/GT3071R) will not compare when run on an R33 at those speeds/gearing. I'd say even a stock turbo will be a bit lazy from 50kph in 3rd!

Either or, I'll try and make a vid in the next couple of nights or so including:

1) 30kph, stand on throttle in 2nd

2) 50kph, roll on the throttle in 3rd

3) 80kph, roll on the throttle in 4th

My car is a completely bone stock RB25DET, stock exhaust manifold, stock intake manifold, a generic "cheap" intercooler, runs a .82a/r internally gated turbine housing which still has the "soft" spring they are supplied with. This won't effect the low down spool, but does end up with "messy" control of when it hits full boost which from what I can tell isn't that relevant to what you want anyway - as you appear to be worrying more about response/building boost than where exactly it hits full boost.

The numbers I show SHOULD be a worst case for a .82a/r GT30R, with nice manifolds/cams/boost control (ext.wg) it should only be better :D

Too bad u dont have the big can act yet as i am more interested to see what rpm u reach full boost.

I cant remember right now exactly who changed from the supplied act to the big can but they did see a difference as to where full boost was reached ie. a few hundred rpm earlier.

Probably u can do those runs listed and include a dyno style run in 4th gear with the throttle stamped from about 2000rpm....this should give reference as to where boost starts to build,how fast it builds and where max boost is reached..... things might happen a little too fast in second to see whats really going on :P

LOL good thinking :P I will have to anyway, as I have been holding off doing a proper dyno tune on the car until I am content with the boost control. I'll have to take it for a blat and see if I can stabilise the boost curve, and if so it will be on to the dyno to get the tune refined - would quite like to knock that 300kw mark.

I am sure I can try that too though heed my disclaimer that I still don't have a big can actuator on the car, and the boost curve is a bit eclectic :)

The large can provides better response and tunability .

I couldn't get more than 16 psi on the standard actuator - 18 briefly then dropped.

Now we can get it to flat line on 24 psi !

But my 570 injectors are maxed so I'm running 22.

It's advertised as an 18 psi actuator be we can turn it down to 15.

Spool up is heaps quicker and 500 rpm sooner.

I have a large can actuator at home already :) I am just waiting on my flatmate to modify it for me so it will sit right on my turbo so hopefully it should be done sometime soon. One of my friends was in the US recently and grabbed it for me while over there, shipping = free haha.

You won't beleive the difference once it goes on.

The standard spring was SO soft my actuator started to leak pressure around 7 psi.

Boost was so gradual, when I first got my car back I had the shits.

Now it hits the way it should...

GTScotT yes its difficult to get a torque monster that pulls from lowish revs and has a free spinning longish rev range .

Possibly its the torque characteristics and numbers you should be looking at rather than Hp/Kw ones . The dynamics of the Evos is just so different to the Skylines - even the GTRs .

People may howl at me here but ultimately a good Evo would eat a GTR at sub light speed and in twisty windy conditions because thats what they were designed to do . The fact that Mitsy went through so many revisions in such a short time ment they could keep improving them and stay competitive in the rally world . I don't know if Mitsy is even involved with WRC anymore so the huge divide between road and race may be widening for them .

Brute torque from a standing start really demands AWD tractive effort in a production based untubbed car and a RWD one doesn't have it . All the time you see V8 twits with lots of torque and no traction which is fine if screeching tyres and tail out drifting is your thing . Dramatic I'm sure but I reckon its fast in the noise equals power scenerio .

I'm not sure you can have what you want in a Skyline because even if you could develop the same torque curve with numbers relivent to the greater mass I don't think you'll get it to the ground as easily .

I think this is going to come down to what you like to drive around in most of the time ie when not going ten tenths . For maximum effort the Lancers would be the better car IMO but they tend to be a bit hard edged for just wheeling around the burbs . There is also the testosterone factor of my cars got six cylinders and yours has a girly four mate . The general consensus is that a big burly 8 is horn because its big and burbley . History showed us that your average meat head can't see past football meat pies and Holden V8's , and even when his eyes told him those ricer GTRs just wipe their arse on his Holdens bonnett the Bullshite Bullshite chant from Bathurst in 1992 says it all , aren't you proud to be Australian ?

Carpark show off time , line up a 7 Liter Door and an R34 GTR and and an Evo 3 . The 2L with the hair dryer starts to look pretty wussy but a good stdish Evo 3 can do things the Door never will and when its beaten the door pilot will always say yeah mate but its just a blousy 4 .

In my world it doesn't much matter what road cars can do once you get to say 140 clicks , you've already done your licence and a loose is gonna hurt big time . The things used to nab speeding are getting more sophisticated all the time and public opinion about street racing is pretty low , it isn't worth dying for - or hurting someone else .

So for "sub light" speeds rapid acceleration from start needs a lot of torque in the lower to mid range and every sceric of tractive effort you can get .

Out of the box I reckon the Lancer has more of what you need to be a bit of a weapon in the sub light speed world .

A bit tamer but Subaru really cashed in with Ram Raider because arguably it wasn't a bad package for the money . Like the Lancer it couldn't do everything a V8 Commodore can but in the cut and thrust it did more at saner speeds .

Just so you don't think I'm anti Skyline , the Line will be larger and more comfortable to drive and probably better finished than Evos upto maybe the 6 . The Lancers would be a bit more fussy with short diffs and closer ratio gears but thats what more competition oriented cars need to have .

To have your cake and eat it probably means 200K and something out of Europe which is fine if you are a CEO somewhere ...

The Evos are the hard mean capable ones , the Skylines are the more GT road type cars that tend to be an easier overall package to live with IMO .

Everyone has their own priorites , Id like my R33 and an Evo 6 but can't work out which would be the daily . The E6 quicker around the burbs I reckon .

Moving further OT but its alarming how much that rant is something I could have said if I hadn't restrained myself. An R33 and an EVO 6 (or even better, 9 for me) in the garage would make me pleased.

evos 1 - 3 then 4 - 6 and 7 - 9 respectivelly are all the same car with basic revisions, 7 being the last homologation special, 8 and 9 have all the addition safety and luxury features plus a 60L tanks as apposed to 40. just to clear it up if your ever interested disco lol.

Realistically, the evo was not livable around town.. not for the average trigger happy hoon anyway. It just had you sitting on the edge of your seat all the time with it wanting to leap forward at the itch of the throttle. Further to this I basically gave the evo away to pay for expenses and had just about no change left over.. so as much as it was a negative experience for me, it really is a sore spot that I do miss.

In saying this my actual quotation for my how I want my skyline to end is, to have a decent off boost zone up to 4k on light throttle yet to pull hard from 3ish k (not full boost just pulling well) and to have as much kick in the pants as I can sanely get to the ground.

more and more this seems like its going to be a harder and harder task to achieve, yet after alot of thinking I decided on the skyline and managed to find one in mint condition with a suspected engine fault. In the end it was simply a faulty immobilizer and the car was mine for peanuts.. Thus im commited to building the skyline and not looking back yet I think that the results im chasing are something alot of people would want, just arent sure how to get it. And here we are :rant:

OK now you have said that, it doesn't look so bad - hard is of course relative. Mine is definitely giving a push in the back by 3000rpm, not full boost but you know that if you leave your boot in it you are going to end up picking up a lot of speed quickly. I *MIGHT* get a chance to go out shortly and do those tests for you...

OK, as promised - had a mate driving the car for me and I tried to explain to him what was needed... might be a little rough but should at least give a better idea than trying to explain it. Hope this helps :)

Lithium, mate, you are an absolute LEGEND.

That video is an absolute milestone in the search for confidence on the RB25 and GT30 front. I cant say thinks enough for posting that up. The car pulls notably hard from low revs and you can hear that if driven lightly it would be very easy to live with.

Once again mate you are an all out champ for doing this, that video demonstrates the base expectations one should have for such a setup.

Cheers for the comments, I am quite happy with it - and as mentioned in the past... I've not had the boost control at a point I am confident enough to lean on the tune so its running quite soft timing until I get that sorted out and put it on the dyno. Its got heaps more in it!

Dude..... that's more responsive than my stock turboed rb26!!!

1bar of boost by 3600rpm...not bad at all for an internally gated .82 turbine.

I'm sure the big can will be more responsive or even better yet an external gate :rofl:

I've got the 0.63 Rear with a little can, and I can say that it made boost a little bit more agressively.

I have a RB30 almost completed now though, so we'll see how that goes.

Was wondering where you were??? Seems like ur only hanging around in the rb30 threads these days :happy:

Can u comment a little more on the response of the .63 and if it felt like it was lacking up in the rev range

I would have like to see what ur set up would have made without wmi even though i will be using it as our best here is 95.... i just dont want to depend on it too much if u know what i mean

lith, dont need vids of this, just experiences,

top gear, flat road, 80km/h, partial throttle accel. to 100km/h, how does the car feel compared to stock?

80km/h 4th gear up hills +100 km/h 5th gear up hills, how does the car feel compared to stock?

what I am getting at, is do you miss the "always on boost" nature of the standard turbo for just general partial throttle around town driving? Or does it make boost quickly enough when needed(overtaking, pulling out etc)

Pity I don't know anyone with a 3076 :happy:

When driving around town it feels just the same as the stock turbo. At partial throttle you will always go straight to positive pressure. Might not be as high as the stock turbo.

But really, you are not upgrading to a 500hp turbo to have it feel like a stocker now are you :happy:

Get some cams and all the torque you had with the stock turbo off boost will return.

    • If you are fine with China turbos, Maxpeedingrods makes a bolt on turbo. Ive had mine for two summers now and it seems to be holding up ok. 
    • Howdy all Im in a little predicament and wondering what everyone’s thoughts are? I’ve had my long block rebuilt and am in the market for a turbo due to my old one having metal shavings from crank bearings (cause of rebuild) go throughout the turbos oil lines and there wheel has a little play. I’m not really aiming for any power, just trying to keep it as oem as possible, but I can’t find a turbo that’s built for the stock ecu or find something that would be a standard replacement. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions 
    • How's everyone going? Just a shout-out introducing myself. I'm James, I live on the north side of Brisbane. I bought an R33 that had been left to rot in someone's front yard for 14 years. Apparently, it has immobiliser/fuel issues. Long story short, it's suffering from a seized engine, plus whatever else turns up once it runs. The car is pretty good considering it sat for so long. It pretty much died after being imported. It has a bunch of Jap parts and a full Top Secret body kit. It's painted Fiat Turchese Festival, or aqua blue if you're not French. Another project to throw money at!
    • So the clockspring is responsible for the indicators cancelling on their own? I thought that was the function of that white thing in the center (any idea what it's called?)
    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
