hey guys

im just wondering how hardis it to take the plenem of an rb26, i just wanna strip the paint off it,

do i need to replace the gaskets?? or has anyone done it with the plenum on??

this is one of the hardest jobs to do with the engine in the car,

i did it twice now, when i did it the 1st time it took a while, couple of nights work,

2nd time it took only half a day because i didnt refit the pain in the butt bolts that hold the aac valve etc on,

reccomend trying to either paint it in the car or pull the motor out.

cheers

Jeremy

Dude dont even try doing that job with the engine in the car. its painfull knuckkle busting work to take it out. the taking out part is not thye bad one, the putting back is. and yes youll need new gaskets, and every bolt has to be torqued to spec (the hard part)

Hi, I've removed the plenum on my own car 3 times looking for air leaks :P found it between the manifold and the cylinder head gasket in the end. Anyway, its a do-able job with a few slight catchs you need to know about. The main one being a nasty little 10mm bolt holding a bracket to the underside of the plenum right at the back between 5 & 6. If you don't know its there you'll wonder why the hell the plenum won't come off. Also I bought a curved 12mm stalwille spanner which makes getting the lower plenum nuts a piece of cake vs using a 12mm on an long extension.......

good luck

Mike
