Hi Guys,

I've searched through the treads but cant seem to get a definative answer for the correct nissan part number for the oil filter...and from reading on how some didnt fit snug especially on the GTR's ...am afraid of getting the wrong one. Cars due for service in another 500km so I prolly need to get the parts ready.

my car is a 97 stagea rs4...don't really know if the rb25det is the same on the s1 or 2 skylines.

amsoil filters sounded pretty good but i dont think theres a dealer in perth...too shit scared to try ryco's after all the bad reviews...so i guess safest option would be to buy the genuine nissan part.

and try the same part number as a VL commodore...

Ryco filters are basically industry standard use for mechanics so not sure I would get sucked in to all the hype... There would be other factors at play like extreme conditions and probably a small dose of stupidity?

Just call up your local Nissan Spare Parts, tell them your VIN and say you want to buy some oil filters.

Then they will give you a part number/cost. My genuine nissan filters cost me about ~$7 each. Gone up since last years ~$6

where is the vin number of my car located?

Stamped into the firewall top left-ish, you will need the original japanese one not the new Australian one that was attached at compliance. The Australian one should be rivited on.

Cheers

Thanks luke...i think i know which one it is....the australian compliance one is bright pink and attached to the top strut mount near the battery.

if i cant get the nissan filter i might just settle for the ryco ones....guess its no help reading all the forum treads coz just gets me all paranoid bout stuff.

I would be trying the motul synthetic motor oil this time round coz from past experience with mobil 1 ..it does tend to accentuate tappet noise...used it on my evo 3 engine before and on cold starts could hear this sound like shaking a can of spray paint.

I use PureONE oil filters and the part number is PL24457. Have one on my 97 stagea now, no problems. There is also another oil filter and its V04 part number, can't remember the brand though..

And I also use MOTUL turbolite.. when we checked the oil before the drags it was clean.. so didn't change it, and its still clean.. Its been 5000k'sor just under since the oil change :)

well i went with the vin number to the local nissan dealer and got a filter which cost me $11 ..was under the impression that they retailed for $8 ...damn con ..anyway the part number was 15208-H8911AU

prolly cost extra coz it had a sump plug washer lol

and got a 5 liter bottle of motul x-cess 5w-40 (was after a 300v but repco didnt have that in stock)..cost $62.99

will update on how the car drives after the service once i get it done this weekend.

Nissan parts costs change cheaps based on location etc.

Melbournes Australias biggest port, so its porbably cheaper here as maybe it all gets imported through here? Iono

is cool ....was just having a whinge, still cheaper tho coz repco quoted me $13 for the ryco filter

btw ...can anyone give me pointers on how to check the atessa fluid levels and where the reservoir is located if i want to top this up.

Open the rear door, and it is on the drivers side, behind the wheel hump, inside two little plastic doors underneath the window.

Start your car or have the key turned to ON to make sure the pump is running and check level

Thanks cyrus ...managed to change the filter and lube just before dark today...5 liters of motul and it barely passed the low mark on the dipstick :) now i hafta get another bottle...hope they come in 1 liter packs.

Do you have a big oil cooler or something hooked up that would increase the capacity?

Don't over fill it, that is a bad idea...

Did you start the engine after you filled it up? Get the pressure up then switch it off, wait for oil to drain back to the sump then check the level again.

Do some investigating beofre you put more oil in is my tip...

did exactly that...drained the oil...took the filter off and waited for bout an hour till every last drop had drained out...put the sump plug back on ...put in new filter...fill oil ...took dipstick...gave it a clean...put it all the way in...pulled out...no traces of oil on dipstick....filled another 1/2 liter...checked level again..small amount of oil at end of dipstick where theres a notch....emptied remainder of 5 liter bottle...checked again..was barely pass the low level....start the car up...let idle for bout 2 minutes then turned it off...checked again...below the low level...darnit..do i have a bigger oil sump?
