Hey guys/girls....there maybe one...

anyway. My ER34 is off the road for 3 months..along with my driving habits (guess why *cough*), Im wanting to make my engine alot more revvy (not so much past 7/8k) buy more from idle - redline speed.

Im already working on Lightweight flywheel + Carbon tailshaft + lightweight rims, and general weight removal throughout the car.

Just want to know engine wise, what can I do to make my engine rev alot faster.

My goal is 220RWKW, with as much reponse, torque etc i can get out of it. Its for the touge, the touge, the touge. So my biggest enemy is turbo lag.

I already have:

(although barely any of this is to do with engine response/revs)

3" Exhaust, Bride bucket seat, Carbon bonnet, coils.

Get a super responsive turbo, like the APEXi RX6 B. I have friend here with a S2 GTST with a RB 25 and that turbo, it moved like crazy. what i would suggest is getting your rotating assemly lightend, crank machining, lighter pistons, lightened pulleys, a good damper. get some cams to make the midrange - high end power, get a ECU that can control your VVT, thats about what i can pul out of the hat for you.

reduce the reciprocating mass

so, as you said lightened flywheel, carbon tailshaft

also, im not sure if you can get lightweight pulleys for the rb25, but if you can, get some

are you rebuilding the engine internals?

Want revs huh? Just drop a PFC in it and set the rev limiter to 12,000rpm :laugh: Your engine will love you for it...

* Pod

* Turbo Upgrade (hi-flow?)

* Cams

* ECU

* Fuel Setup

I wouldn't be too concerned with the weight reduction stuff... if you're aiming for 220rwkw; you'd be able to piece a setup together that will enable you to pull enough power to move that mass.

if you are serious, which i dont think you are then

strip the boot interior

strip the rear seat interior

change the rear diff gears

heavy duty clutch

powerfc & boost kit & tune

hiflowed turbo

split dump exhaust

fuel pump

cold air intake kit

fmic

suspension complete overhaul (to get the power down)

-shocks, bushes, camber, castor for all 4 corners & pineapples for the rear

good rubber with suitable pressure

The question he is asking is quite a good one.

Notice he said 'not so much past 7/8k but, from idle to redline?

He's not trying to rev the motor to 14,000rpm. The goal is 220rwkw as a peak value.

Cover;

Reducion in rotational mass

Increasing the average power across the desired rpm range,

Reduction in total mass (power to weight)

and finally optimised gearing

is a short answer.

The power goal you have is sensible but, one last thing is getting an optimised response monster's power to the ground. You will need to look at tyres and suspension too.

Keep the clutch pedal depressed - I find the engine is extremely responsive to revving by doing this. :)

If you do decide to go for a rebuild, as well as getting lightened internals you might want to up the compression as well.

You only need low compression for big boost - if you're running low boost then a higher compression won't matter so much, but you'll pick up more power and response. Especially off-boost.

I don't know if it'll make the engine more willing to rev to redline, but it will make the engine pick up in the midrange (which is what you want for touge).

havent yet sky 34, just working towards it.

Rear of boot + rear seats/ rear interior are gone.

rear speakers are gone, passenger door internal pannels are gone,glove box is gone.

So would anything like cams/cam shafts help response?

If i did get a hi-flo, i wouldnt want too much that would increase lag.

ATM im more wanting to work on engine response throughout the rev range.

Gear ratio/diff ratio sounds awesome too.

i think what i want is the engine to rev faster, even if in neutral. i'd like to work on the engine to learn more. love to rev from idle-7/8k in 1 second... mmmmm F1 response.. u know what i mean..

to blip the throttle in neutral, you need to lighten pulleys, flywheel etc, remove anything draining on the engines spin eg. the A/c and perhaps rebuild with lighter, fully balanced internals. I doubt it would be anything like what you are finding in gt4 though...

if you want to do it in gear, you need everything as above, but more power too. It can only rev as quick as it pulls.

or buy shit rear tyres

    • Yeh... literally every time i jump on a forum, see an instagram post or see an engine bay at a car show, i get an idea and add it to my 'to do' list. So what started off as, hey can u just make a couple of intake hard pipes because my dumbass bought the wrong apexi kit, blew out into a 2 week job including braided brake lines & custom bash kit for the front lip haha.  Getting Luke from A4E engineering to make a full custom exhaust with a controllable aes dump valve so i can actually switch between quiet and loud, because right now its just loud all day every day. Then after that go and get the tune redone flex e85 & 98 as i get bugger all milage from e85, makes going for longer drivers difficult
    • Car looks clean as. You ended up getting quite a bit done 😂  So what's the plan for the exhaust? 
    • The only Neo rods that were any different to any other RB25 rods were the DET ones, and they were the same as RB26. Here is a Neo DET rod. O5U part number visible. Here is a post in a thread here on SAU with evidence from someone who has done this before. There are photos in the thread of normal RB25 rods.  
    • Sure, but why assume that will be the case forever? And why assume you'll be able to do an oil change to swap back to a stock drain bolt before that happens? And does it even matter when I change the oil at fairly short intervals? Life can be funny sometimes and unexpected things can happen. Like breaking a collarbone so you can't do any work on your car for a few months but the oil change is due so you have to take it to somewhere and hope they don't do something stupid like stacking the new drain plug washer on top of the old one.
    • Do u know how to identify the rods are rb25 or neo ones? Can u look into the pics and tell me is they de or de neo ones. Its confusing becoz my motor has de neo head but block is 25de 75t, so really confusing me about rods, crank.
