Recently parked my R33 Gtst in the garage for winter storage and ofcourse i cant leave it alone!

The first thing on the list was to fit the in-line Walbro fuel pump i bought some time ago, but somehow i havent started that yet.. still got about 5 months before its time to hit the road again so.. :laugh:

Anyway, one day at work i was just fed up with having a 2-DIN hole with only a 1-DIN stereo, and i just really knew how good a DVD-screen would look!

So instead of eating lunch that day i went to the local car audio/video store and bought myself a 'In-car theatre'-kit from SONY, with a DVD-player (reading CDs, DVDs with mp3, jpeg etc etc), screen, and wireless headphones (still in their box..) .

Now i'm done with the cables, well more or less done anyway :rant: The DVD-screen is in place, just need to grind 3 mm off of the hole in the dashboard.

Then all of a sudden i remembered having a PS2 Slim laying around somewhere, so i found it in a closet in my apartment and headed for the garage.

My idea is to have the PS2 in the trunk, in a lowered box in the spare-tire space, covered with a plexi glass-screen.

I had to make my own floor in the trunk, using some wood i found, and also make a wall above, covering the battery (my factory batterywall was gone when the car arrived) .

I'm going to fit the DVD-unit in the wall, so that just 2 cm are sticking out so that i can change discs, and have one 12" subs on each side of the trunk along with a tweeter, and also later on, fitting 2 DVD-screens on the inside of the trunk-cover. Will get 2 wireless PS2-controllers so that i can give my friends a beating in GT4 :rant:

The car came with a Alpine stereo-system so im kinda lucky that i wont be needing to upgrade that!

Im still going to keep the stereo-unit i have, that to a SONY, connecting the DVD-audio through the stereo, and im going to mak a replica of the gloves-compartment, fitting the stereo-unit there, so that i still can adjust the sound the way i want, and listen to CD if i want.

Well enough of that, here comes some very early work-in-progress pictures (pictures taken with my phone-camera so the quality is not that good):

Anoyone said cables? All the DVD-cables arent even in the pic! They are by the way nicely tucked away now :)

nice! Pretty handy work for "some wood I found lying around"!

I raised my floor up a bit just to have a flat surface for my single sub box, and it's not as tidy as yours! How on earth did you cut the wood out to the curves of the boot lining so neatly??

And why is your friend licking the cables!? ;op

Paper templates are your friend :)

Nice work mate, Im sure you will finish that any many other projects in 5 months, what you have so far didn't even take you that long at all....

Thanks guys!

Well the boot lining wasnt that hard, just used the factory carpet as template and it worked out fine!

I didnt even realize that he was licking the cables until i uploaded the pics to my computer!! Will ask him though so that we get an answer :) He is supposed to be en electrician so i cant really imagine why he did that! Maybe some kind of fetish..

Just called a guy earlier today about wrapping it all in some nice leatherish material, probably will go with vinyl, wont be a problem, and not all that expensive either. It'll probably look good to, cause he builds the interior on the stores demo-cars, so i have somewhat high hopes :P

I think ill go with black for the floor, and white for the ps2-box, dont really know what i'll do with the wall yet, dont want it to be all booring though!

Maybe someone has some good tips of what i can to with it??

hey

looks like its coming along very nicely what r u doin about the space saver spare wheel situation? did u remove it all togethor or its still their is it possible to get a photo showing all the raised floor in the boot like a birds eye view of the whole floor it would be appreciated keep up the good work it looks real nice :(

Hey and thanks for your comments!

About the sparewheel situation :P The fitting for the sparewheel is still under the floor, the floor (or the lowered ps2 box-part if u will) actually just touches it, so if i want i can use it to fit the new floor to the car, altough i wont, cause then the screw will show when fitted :) Dont wanna ruin the vinyl with that!

Oh right! I needed to saw the floor in 2 pieces, fitted the PS2 box to one part and just places the other part on top of it.

Didnt really get what picture you wanted (did u want one with the floor in place in the boot?), so i removed the floor from the car, and took a birds-eye view of it. The side closest to the bottom of the pic is the battery side.

BTW Once again my friend is in the shot, altough this time i knew about it :rofl:

And some more, none-audio/video, progress!

I've started fitting the external fuelpump! I placed it below the rear seats, will be disconnecting (and replacing with a longer) the hose from the factory pump (near the rear right wheel) connecting that to the pump, and sawing off the fuelpipe nearby and connecting the hose leading from the new pump to that.

As far as i've read i wont be needing to remove the factory pump, cause it wont be limiting the fuel going to the new pump.

Finally!!

Today i installed my external fuelpump. Kept the factory pump, doesnt affect anything by leaving it in there. Installing the new in-line pump wasnt that big of a deal, placed it as you can see in the photo just in front of the tank. I ran the lines and cables around the side of the tank.

I didnt go the hard way, cutting the factory fuellines, i simply pulled the hose by the right rear wheel and ran that to one side of the pump, and ran the hose from the other side back to the lines, this doesnt affect the performance since its building the wanted pressure anyway.

I had to get a relay, received a Bosch-relay from a friend, got the signal from the factory pump, and fused it with a 20 amp fuse, to the battery.

      Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4

      Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was ￡307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway.       To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
