Thanks Eugene, 'Eug' for going to the trouble of organising the group buy and getting a great deal for the rest of us N/A'ers. Everyone came together really quickly and there seemed to be no major hassles! Well done to everyone else who took part too. So.. In time let's see some pics, videos etc of your install's guys!

The rest of my exhaust is 2.25 (made by hi-tech) I might look into a new cat I suppose :)

Looking forward to the change in song from the extractors.. I was running a torch along that part where the extractors will replace and the seal is broken etc.. so yea.. should sound tough =D

What was Hi-Tech's service like? Is there one in the Melbourne Area?

Cheers

They were great, at the time I was pretty clueless about the whole exhaust situation, but they explained it pretty clearly. And they knew their stuff too looking back on it now. Unfortunately I don't think they have a melbourne location too (from looking at their contact info) http://www.hitechmufflers.com.au/contact.html

edit: sneaky sneaky sean'0 lol why did you edit your question out?

lol, "Very sneaky sir"

I was waiting for the "ahhh dirr go to the WWW" when i read my Q again :),

What have you got in your current system? (not really interested in brands or whateva, just what components) so i don't sound like a dummy later lol

cheers

I have 4 inch tip.. oval shapeish muffler that leads onto the 2.25 piping.. then a resonator.. then the cat.. That's the best I can explain it?

All the components up to the cat were created by hi-tech..

Yep,

Thats exactly what i wanted to know, i didn't really want to get a cannon, i was thinking one of those "oval" mufflers like you descibe. I was also looking into someithing with twin tip, hmmm so many decisions...

Cheers :P

no worries jeremy...

since most of us are dealing with a similiar situation, i'll put in my 2 cents. choose your exhaust system carefully, especially on NA cars they will tend to be very very drony. NA_R33 had a set of these extractors and a titanium 2.5" system with a cannon - the headaches you used to get sitting near, around, in the thing was enough to drive you nuts!

stick with something simple and pay attention to resonators.

let us all know how you go with your new systems

  • 2 weeks later...

Just on what Eug said, resonators are pivotal, u have to go to an exhaust shop with alot of experience with twin cam engines otherwise ur car is going to be the worst sounding thing ever. Twin Cams are renouned for giving a metallic reverberance sounds that is considerably hard to combat for and old bloke at an exhaust who only does systems for old clunker V8's and or a young 17 yo at the time who decided the best way to fix was to make it so loud you couldnt hear it :ninja:

Gday Gents its been a while eh :), well I'm finally getting the whole exhaust done TODAY!!

So far I've got the extractors, 2.25" custom mandrel bent piping, resonator, cat and an oval Magnaflow muffler.....so it should sound the shizzle :(

I'm gonna pick the car up in about 2 hours or so....... i may be a while, but i will be posting lots of pics up for everyone to have a gander

Once again,

Eug your a champ!!

Sean'O

Nice nice. I might throw up a sound file or vid soon if i get the time.

Edit: I also need to get rid of this sig.. It was meant to be a joke, but no one has said anything yet, starting to think people are like wtf is that guy on..

Sounds good buddy, I'm probably gonna get a few sound clips and possibly some "in-car" driving shenanigans :(, i'll see if i can duct tape my camera to my passenger seat lol

Actually i wasn't going to say anything.....but not that you mention it :(, i was thinking...."ahhhh ok, friends forever......what the hell" lol

Anyways, yeah i'm pretty friggen excited, i'm about to boot down to the shop in the nxt 30 mins so wish me luck eh

ohh when i get the car home i'm gonna clean out the AFM and re-set the ECU just for good measure, then its off to ge the car clean for some pics tonight in my secret industrial zone :)

But for shizz, i'll put all of my vids and pics in this thread

Talk to you l8ter brother,

Regards,

Sean'O

no worries Sean, keep us updated... glad i could help

Nick, what catback do you have? that actually sounds pretty good (pre-extractors), how does it sound higher in the rev range?

i might have to get some audio files of mine... i'm not quite happy with the catback (stock 33GTR for the moment) it's a cheaper temporary alternative.

below 4K mine is pretty sweet, when i get up it and want to hit the tracks or a skidpan it just has a loud metallic scream which isnt quite what i'm after.

Got a hi-tech 2.25 catback. Sounds pretty nice at high revs, I'll go warm it up tonight and take another vid of it with extractors revving to 6-7k or what ever :)

i wanted to get in on this group buy but dad was bit crankey at the time and would of shot me for it. bought a pair from jus jap for 150bux few weeks ago. i got a vid of it running extractors cat and a straight pipe. sounds hidious but loud.

what headers did you get from just jap? i asked them ages ago and they had nothing...

i agree with the hideous, it's got a very umm... "raspy" note to it...

would be keen to hear the hi-tech nick... i've been speaking to someone else, who has a trust catback... would like to hear that too...

    • All of your suspension bushes/bolts etc, should also only ever be tightened when the car is sitting with full weight too.   IE, jack it back up, shove a heap of stuff down so you can lower the wheels onto so the car is "on the ground" but you have room to get under it.   It's why when properly done, you should be able to remove the shock and spring, but the arms won't go to 100% droop. If you don't do the above, you'll destroy your bushes.

    • These arrived today! Sadly I'm going to probably be smart and enjoy the car as is over the summer/sunny period and save the ~2 weeks downtime it'd take to swap the heads over and tune later in the year. Maybe. It's going to be pretty damn tempting seeing these bolt on funs just sitting in storage when they're ready to go. There's a non-zero chance I end up @The Bogan'ing it.
