im getting a new muffler for it if it doesnt work put my old cat bak on and jus put a straight pipe on the end instead of the muffler cause it has a resonator and mid mount muffler. it sounded gud but to quiet, fujitsubo... i found out after i took it off that it was worth shitloads

the good thing with those jap catbacks, is the sound has been 'designed' I suppose you could say (excuse the english, i'm tired).

When you just rock up to liverpool exhaust or other places, what you get can sometimes be a mystery. One of my friend's na skyline ended up sounding like a tinny pos. Another exhaust shop did this awesome deep exhaust for him, basically no tin at all.

ps: dyken, if you take pictures of your whole exhaust, tell us what amterial was used, piping diametre, etc, we mgiht be able to tell you which component is the cause of the bad noise and how to improve it instead of replacing the whole thing.

PS2: I really like the volume on your car. I'm running straight pipe on my gtst and to be honest, it's not loud enough. I wish it was louder. I've got a bigger turbo now, so hopefully it'll be louder.

1. which exhaust old cat bak or new one??

2. i heard straight pipes on turbos never sounded all that loud i dunno y. i asked my freind he said its loudbut not as loud as an na cause of sumfin to do with the turbo it quietens it down

Because with a turbo, the exhaust wheel is in the path of the combustion gases, so it 'muffles' the sound (where NA its direct).

Cheers

Yeah, the turbo makes it softer. Basically, a straight pipe is as loud as you can go. That's max. So my car is at max atm (short of going for bigger pipe). I'm already at 3.5" and that's massive for the street.

I just wish that it was louder, like yours.

Well, I was just suggesting, you know how you said you don't like the soudn of how your car is atm, maybe if you took a picture of the components on it, and gave indication of piping size, material etc, we could suggest which one is making the bad sound so that you can change just that part and save money.

manwhore: get a screamer, you know you want to :)

i think it's probably just an off the shelf tin one? the RB twin cam NAs are difficult to fiddle with, they tend to get a real high raspy sound which is a mish to deal with

hey eug

I don't know whether it's because mine is a turbo, but I have hardly any tin at all. Once I get it back onto the road, I'm happy to do a driveby video for you or whatever

I reckon the reason why you guys are getting tin, is because you're using stainless parts. I hate stainless.

Even my lousy highflow cat is stainless, and I can hear tinny noises through that. i reckon if there is any tin, it comes from that.

I have the cast manifold, cast turbo, mild steel exhaust. so i suppose that's why it's not tinny. Or it could be an na thing, not sure.

A sidepipe might also be an idea, but I don't think it's actually louder. Just puts the sound elsewhere. Plus, it would be very obvious, and totally spasticated to drive lol

Screamer - Maybe :)

i wanted to get in on this group buy but dad was bit crankey at the time and would of shot me for it. bought a pair from jus jap for 150bux few weeks ago. i got a vid of it running extractors cat and a straight pipe. sounds hidious but loud.

ahahaha mate thats awesome lol

I got some pics for everyone as promised. Sorry I took so long, i've been driving constantly and working in between so not much time for stuffin about eh

here they are......... (i can get more specific ones if you are really curious but i think ya get the gist )

Ok, start from the engine bay, here is a pic of the extractors mounted

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/Stuz32/P1000547.jpg

next, here is a pic "looking down" where the old exhaust manifold used to be, quite a bit of room down there

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/Stuz32/P1000549.jpg

Next, this is a pic of the pipes, all Mandrel, you can see the resonator too....

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/Stuz32/Mandrell.jpg

Lastly, here is the muffler

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/Stuz32/Muffler.jpg

Overall i am very please with how it all came out.

At the low rev range it has a very deep note (1k - 2.5k)

Mid range its very quiet (3k - 4k'ish ), which is perfect for me because thats what i do on the Highway to work, i can put the windows up and barely hear it

High end (4k +) it screams like an RB should :D:glare:

So for me i really couldn't be happier!!....just perfect

now i'm guessing most of you a wondering about 2 things,

1 - Heat from extractors

2 - Power difference

ok, after taking the car for a very spirited drive up the Dandy's (Damm it sounded good by the way lol), after pulling over straight after, popped the bonnet to find the heat coming out of the bay was very normal, to be honest i would even say slightly less heat than the standard manifold. At first i was really worried that things would "melt" etc, but i think the HPC coating is doing its job beautifully.

Now the power, in the low to mid range i couldn't really "feel" any difference, however higher up it does certainly pull much harder than it did prior to the exhaust. So yes, for me i can feel the difference.

Next i'm guessing you want vids......well your gonna have to wait lol, sorry guys

I might be able to work something out hopefully this weekend, so fingers crossed,

Either way, i'll be putting them in this thread so just keep an eye on here and they will get there eventually

Cheers,

That's a mad looking system !! I'm really surprised you don't get any drone with the resonator so far back though.

Just one thing I noticed from your pics is that you might want to get this

post-2420-1175200068.jpg

fixed up before too long so you don't get any problems :(

Well spotted lol :),

nahh for sure i noticed that too... the welding on the extractors is pretty beefy, i guess the washer thingo's were just a little too big, but yeah, its on my "list" lol

Having an absolute blast with the car atm, it has totally chaged the whole "feel" of the car.....not sure if that makes sense, but i think you get the gist.

But yeah, no drone at all, its bloody fantastic, the sound dies down at the perfect rev range, and then gets louder higher up, very very happy with how it worked out :D

an update on the vids, well its already sunday lol, and my camera is dead cauz i went to auto salon last night, so i'll just have to see how we go, but dw, vids will get here eventually :)

Hope everyones weekend is going great!!!

Talk to ya laterz :D

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
