VOTE 1 - The Premium Malts, by Suntory. Its my Ihiban.

Kirin IchiBan and Asahi Super Dry sold in Aus are not from Japan. They are either brewed in Aus or Malaysia and taste different to the actual Japanese brew (I dont think Ihiban has been sold in Japan for many years) :spank:

yeah Kirin is brewed here at Lidcombe in Sydney (lion nathan), and the Asahi is brewed in Thailand and imported here ;) The Sapporo we get is made in Canada of all places...

Well the beer itself is actually japanese but its brewed and bottled in Thailand, distributed by a company in Melbourne but remains under licence from japan much like what Fosters did when they offloaded its garbage to the UKaround 10 years ago. This is why its does taste different to local Japanese beer.

Just remember to check the label if you want to be getting Japanese beer. If you get Kirin or Asahi in Sydney chances are they're not brewed in Japan. One is made by Carlton the other is in Canada or Thailand or something and no it doesn't taste the same as the stuff in Japan.

Sapporo in the bottle is also not brewed in Japan.

If you have the money (and I mean stupid bling) get the Sapporo silver can. It's like $8/each. I get one or two occasionally when I feel sentimental and rich. That's my favourite anyhoo...

About the silver cans I can't say I've seen them in Japan either and you're right they're Canadian. They were at one point 'bottled' in Japan tho (perhaps only in Japanese restaurants because now that I think about it that's where I've had the J-ones ...)

Kirin, Asahi and Sapporo are my 3 most favourite japanese beers, in that order.

My ex-girlfriend was japanese and she use to be a promo girl for Kirin beer back when she was 19 or 20.

Damn she was fine! :laugh:

can't remember off the top of my head spent about $200.00 which included some stella's, as well as some bitburgers and jim beam for my dad....... man i gotta keep away from dan murphys

They had some asahi beer glasses but couldn't find any prices :laugh:

i think Japanese beer is great and im a fan of Malts ( the premium really is just that ) and as a bonus i live 10 minutes away from the factory near Fuchu station and you know what that means..

you get 15 minutes at the end of the tour to drink up the sweeeet nectar. They should never have let an aussie loose in there. i make them pay for it EVERY time

still...i am REALLY hanging out for a boags premium. Thats by far THE best aussie beer and ill be damned if i can find it here.. closest i got was cascade..but well its just not the same!

Its like Heiniken... The stuff thats made here is absolute cats piss compared to the Heiniken from Holland.

The 5ltr pressure kegs of heiniken that around around at the moment (in melb at least they are, around $37.50 a keg) .. are totally different.

You put a glass of the Holland Heini, and the Aust Heini... and you nearly chuck after a mouthful of the latter.

Similar to the Japanese beers, and all the others no doubt.

Its just not the same...

What i wouldnt give for a true Japan imported beer.

yeah, that's pretty true. there are a few places in sydney that I can get the real japanese stuff. most ebisu and sapporo (the bottled stuff, not the canadian cans). asahi and kirin is a little harder to find. as kirin is now brewed in sydney, and asahi imported from thailand. and I've never seen malts or malts premium here at all, but I live on the stuff in japan. and chu-hi lime. or chu-hi lemon. the kirin can chu-hi is very good to get smashed on. and refreshing too.

Yeah Asahi and Sapporo FTW.

I recently had some Asahi brought back from Japan by a friend, and the difference is chalk and cheese between the Thai brewed and jap brewed stuff.

The JDM Asahi is alot more creamy than the thai stuff..... don't get me wrong the Thai stuff we get here in Oz is great, but the true JDM Asahi is alot better!!

I've tried to get friends to bring/send some over (as JDM have 2-3lt cans of Asahi!!), and it's really hard.... :huh: Something to do with terror laws and importing liquids.

Slightly off topic, it's kinda like Cadburys chocky from England. When ever my relo's go to the UK, they always bring back heaps of cadbury milk chocky. Something to do with the English chocky not having a additive that Aussie stuff has to stop it from melting to much in milk bars. Don't know if thats BS, but you can taste the difference between UK chocky and Oz Chocky. :)

    • careful when running the car after a boil over. Ive heard you can lose enough coolant that it won't show the right temps because of too much air in the system (or something like that). Make sure the levels are good before trying again.  Maybe a mobile mechanic can come have a look with their scan tool ?
    • OK, just for some extra clarity - there is more than one option at Frenchy's. 1. You can buy the whole kit - with or without the actual compressor. The whole kit includes mounts, hoses, condensor, etc. That's either ~$2200 or ~$2800. No surgery required with this option. 2. You can buy just the bracket (~$600), or the bracket with the compressor (~$1200). Either of this or the above option "without the compressor" is if you already have an Echo comp or you are able to source one locally. Whatever the case, in this option, you will need surgery done on your hoses to adapt to the new compressor. When I said "the Frenchy's kit", I meant the whole kit in option 1. It is obviously somewhat more $$ than a $1500 OEM compressor. But if I had to spend $1500 on an OEM compressor, I would certainly consider spending double that to renew and significantly update everything forward of the firewall. Another option is to rebuild your original compressor. My R34 comp is currently dead and I will be most likely doing that to it if the spare one in the shed is also leaky.

    • Hey all, my 2004 Nissan Skyline 350GT overheated the other day with coolant boiling and leaking out of the coolant reservoir when I was parking. So today, I started it up again just to see if it was a thermostat/head gasket issue. After about 20 mins of running, temps were normal again, no coolant was leaking out and the upper reservoir hose was warm but my engine suddenly cut off. I checked the oil dipstick and cap when it was running and there was no white foamy residue and the exhaust did not have white smoke. I tried starting up the car again but it would only crank, similar to when I had a camshaft sensor issue just that now there’s no check engine light on the dash. Any ideas? Unfortunately I don’t have an OBD2 that can read the Nissan's programme.
    • Bump on this to not make another post, had a ‘head drain’ leak on me and have the engine out as we speak. Planning on just putting a new freeze plug back in , plug the tapped holes and just be done with that headache.    Now I still want to relieve pressure to allow oil to pass down the blocks returns easier. I’ve seen catch cans with multiple vents help folks with this issue on this forum.  I’m wanting to make my own. I have some pictures here of my setup if anyone can help how I should plumb and design the catch can I would deeply appreciate it !   rb25 Oil upgrades: 1.0mm restrictor n1 pump/billet gears extended crank collar  extended sump with trap doors/w welded fitting
