HELP! my car sounds like a frog/bird. :(

I haven't had my skyline for very long now ( about 3 months ) within the last month or so, it seems to have developed this wierdD, very wierd chirping / tweeting sound like you hear small frogs make in groups, or maybe a small bird with a high pitched tweet. lol, this is all I can think of that it sounds like.

This is at a constant rate. I dont think it increases the speed of the noise when the rpm of the engine is higher.

One thing I have noticed is that when I put my foot on the clutch, this sound dissapears. I release the clutch and it wil either come back straight away or gradually build up again.

I tried listening closely from within the engine bay and under neath the car to pinpoint where the sound is coming from, but I have been unsuccesful.

Has anyone heard of/ had this problem before?

my car is a 5 speed manual.

Skylines are well known bird-magnets Check for nests. Set traps if you have to.

Failing that, might be the clutch throw-out bearing.

it'll be your thrust race, gearbox has to come out

Is the thrust race partticularly important? the car seems to run fine, except for this noise? I would like to get it fixed, but if it means I have to get the whole gearbox taken out, maybe it will last a while until I modifiy the car, get it done then or something?

I suppose it depends on what I am modifying. Is this going to be majorly detremental to any other component of my car?

yep, its a bearing, pushes on the pressure plate fingers when you push your foot on the clutch. If it seizes then your pressure plate will be destroyed as well...

Is it necessary to take the whole motor out to pull the gearbox off? or is there sufficient room to pull the gearbox and bell-housing from the locator dowells without touching the engine mounts?

you have to drop the front half of the tailshaft to get the gearbox out. there's no need to move the engine as far as i can see.
