hi guys how r u all i am new to the scene but yeah i just wanna know some stuff i am buying a 1983 nissan skyline in perth and i just wanna know wat stuff u can do to them kinda cars and r they like a r30 model or somethign and wat would the motor be would it be like a rb30 like most skylines or where they not created then ??i am getting the car 2mmrrow and i am just gonna do it up lower it put rims turbo it sound system neons bodykit exhaust and shit like dat i am only 16 turnong 17 in december dis yr so yeah i will do it stage by stage it is auto getting convertered to manual as i am learning manual not auto ..

so any ideas on wat i could do to it and how much it would cost and the info i have asked for if u can help i thank u for it if not thank you for looking at this thread

What he means is, if you have a technical question that is not so vauge, you can ask us, but if u expect us to do the work for you. Forget it. What you're prepared to do, lower it, nice exhaust, turbo, manual conversion. Be prepared to spend in excess of $6k. You might be happier and richer not doing anything to it, and buying a turbo car in the future. I have no idea what a 83 skyline is, and cfb to google it.

the DR30's use the FJ20 engine dont they?

i'm not 100% sure myself.. but i think thats the case..

in regards to modding it, if you are 16/17, you would be on your l/p plates, so i would leave the car as standard to begin with.

maybe rims, and making it look tidy, but powerwise id say it would be more than plenty.

my first car was a 51kw 89 ford laser sedan.. it was a great little car to learn in.

almost everybody starts off with a little bunky, so its nothing to be worried or ashamed about.

once you have had it for a year or two, and if you still want to keep it, then you can look into modifying it more to gain power, etc..

until then have a read and a chat and enjoy SAU.

and as i keep telling my parents its not an investment, sure money matters, but hey, i wake up happy every day and love my car

I'll agree to some extent that doing a car yourself has some satisfaction. But what the hell is the point if you just pay everyone to do it? If you built it yourself, with your own two hands and not just your wallet, then yeah. I know how you feel (see: my black R33's front bar).

But then every time I see the white R33 I bought, I love that thing to pieces. I didn't build it, but I feel the same way you do. You just become more emotionally attached to your car if you do it yourself. I could go on for ages about the disadvantages of building a car yourself, but none of it will sink in unless you do it several times over and realise you just waste money.

My first car was a HZ Premier, 253 with a 4spd.. probably put out about 51kw too full of rust and a complete slug but it was loud and got me through my P plates

But with all old cars there will be headaches, the older they are the bigger the headaches

id recommend keeping it tidy and stock

save up the mod money 5k+

and get a R32 or R33 in the future, much more power to extract and aftermarket mods, means off the shelf items and not custom items which cost alot more (also looks alot more modern)

dont mod a car unless u plan to keep it for a longggggggg time

i put close to 20k into my 32 and i got less then half back, in a period of 6 months

should of bought land or house as it would of made me damn money

neways back on track, a slow auto to get you throw your Ps isnt to bad as 1 i dont wanna see you dead and 2 dun wanna see a wrecked nice car

i started off with a hyundai accent and thats slow........ (got me around from A to B) then came a 33 n 32, how fun is boost? very addictive for the 1st month, single turbo is more economical then twin, more aint always better

now ima stfu coz this is getting long

I know what u guys mean about building your car yourself. I think that even if you do pay somebody else to do the work for you, you still get that satisfaction out of it that you wouldn't quite get when u buy a car with all the mods already done.

Right now, my car is pretty stock and im slowly getting one mod at a time, and when you realise how long it takes to get each mod, the more you appreciate it. Plus the feeling of having a new mod after waiting months is def something you dont experiance with a car brought. Dont get me wrong, it is definatley a better economical reason to buy a built car, you are going in to save heaps. Selling your car that you have built, in the end your never gonna get your money back.

So really i think your paying for the experience of the feeling that you get of having one mod at a time when doing your own car... if that makes sense... Oh i forgot to mention that you learn much more this way, especially when you dont know much about cars (like myself), you realise how each mod affects your car!

ill try do almost anything myself, except things like body kits which i'd pefer to get fitted by someone who knows what they are doing..

but i'm midway through a complete engine swap, and its a good learning curve.

I went from a 93 rolla - to an R32 GTR

While I've had some good moments with the GTR, i regret not travelling sooner or younger. I'm set to sell my car after xmas - and i'm going on a long well deserved trip around the globe (round world - open ticket). While I dont regret buying the GTR, I certainly do wish that I bought it a few more years down the track, when I could easily afford to do all the kool things to it and not have to worry about the could of should of duties.

I've just turned 23, so not all is lost, but i guess this ambition is not for all. My honest advice (even after owning a GTR) - have a good think about what you want to do - and what is important to you, I reckon buy the skyline and keep it how it is for a while, then gradually as you get money do stuff to it - but only gradually and not drastically. and see what else takes your fancy - travel? girls? who knows!

Id go for the good old first car upgrades buddy; POD filter, exhaust and see how you go from that.

Save your money after you get those mods however!! If your like me you will be changing cars like women.

Dont day dream about turboing your first car, some people do it.. some people are dumb.

Save up and make sure your next car is a solid building block + have some fun with the car you have and learn a heck of a lot about mods etc etc whilst you save up for your big turbo beasty.
