sigsputnik
hi all, in my r32, i have an aftermarket head unit (a jvc) so the two buttons on the dash head are not used. i'd like to connect them up to something, preferably the head unit (e.g. next track, previous track). is this possible?? here are the buttons i mean: anyone have any ideas? cheers, sig Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143804-using-the-2-radio-buttons-on-r32-dash/ Share on other sites
mtopxsecret6
I wouldnt like your chances of getting it to work with your aftermarket radio like you want. there could be a way of doing it, but if you dont know electronics.. forget about it. You could use them for other uses, but they DO NOT handle high current through them, so be warned. SuAvE-1
I'd like to see them hooked up to a boost controller - high/low boost that would be very convienient Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143804-using-the-2-radio-buttons-on-r32-dash/#findComment-2683565 Share on other sites
mtopxsecret6
Good idea on use, keep in mind that the are momentary "on" switches. something coud be configured ith a bit of thought. sigsputnik
hmm, thanks chaps. i had the dash off yesterday for another issue and had a look at the connection - they share a plug with some other stuff i think (only looked at it briefly). i might have a hunt around and see what i can find out. MBS206
If you feel like it, you could quite easily hook it upto an aftermarket radio if you're handy with electronics. Basically, if the radio has a remote control, you need to pull the remote apart, join some wires either side of the (Forward/Back) buttons so that they use switches on the dash. Then, desolder the IR sender, and attach a long cable to it. Now, mount the IR sender up in the roof (Aimed at HU), hide the remote behind the dash and use the buttons away. Obviously that's a "brief" over view, if you don't understand what to do once the remote isp ulled apart, this job isn't for you. mtopxsecret6
Possible, but not that practicle to achieve such a simple request. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143804-using-the-2-radio-buttons-on-r32-dash/#findComment-2684149 Share on other sites
sigsputnik
i had originally thought about using the remote in that way but couldn't think of a decent enough place to house the sender - could use the overhead light switch housing, i suppose. ceedub
to switch the laptop on the radio button provides a momentary contact: Basically find two points on the laptop (I used the docking port connection) that when shorted turn the laptop on. You could also solder wires to the laptop switch. Run these two wires to the radio button switch. There should be a small black connector with 2 wires in it that is located behind the stereo slots - connect each wire to it - done (Only the 'FM/AM' button works - I don't know how the 'tune' button is configured as yet) (I've added more pics to my thread if you want to see more details on the install) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143804-using-the-2-radio-buttons-on-r32-dash/#findComment-2687371 Share on other sites
