Bummer to hear about your car Snowy, I've got some cool pics of you launching :P but none of the lunching

Actually my car looked a whole lot worse than it actually was. It seems the filler plug on the top of the gearbox came out. I probably should have looked into it earlier in the day when I notcied a few drops of oil under the car. It also explains the huge step out I had on the mini wang which was no doubt some oil dripping onto the rear wheels. But the fact is I haven't actually touched the gearbox in a long time so god knows why that plug has suddenly come lose.

We were able to get a replacement plug (of sorts) and got home with no drama's at all.

Im just mostly bummed I killed half the skidpan for everyone.

Otherwise my car was pretty sweet with just a few little things to sort out so I can't wait til next years MS season.

Na my curse. It's been cursed ALL year.

Had the PCD Valve issue at Calder Rally Masters, the tyre issue at circuit battle, the cool pipe at Calder, the well documented rod at Winton (due to a damn fuel pump of all things) and now the tranny fluid episode at DECA.

But it looks like Jesus might take my place with his recently run of luck (and especially don't let him drive your car!)

hey was a great day to get burnt, and those flies oh god, i wanted to kill those flies.

I have some pics, and a vid ill upload when tharaka works out his server for me ...

twas a good weekend away as per usual, cant wait till i get the munro in there ...

Well it looks and sounds like everyone had fun.

Hope the problems with people's cars aren't too serious.

Photos look cool. Looks like the Brembros on the Evo are pretty good. Alan looks like he almost did a full on nose plant!!

Am I missing something here or did a certian XR6 Turbo taxi not run? I didn't see any photos of it...

Damn my rims look good on Nige's car!

Well I don't know where to start, I had a fabulous Day yesterday as always but the real fun begins once the sun goes down!!! Thanks to all of the officials, it was such a hot day and you all did a fantastic job.

I can't believe I managed to down two 1.4 litre magerita's!! Thats a first for me but i only got 1 Sombraro

Sydney - Not sure if you remember me but you were very entertaining throughout the evening and i'm sorry for thinking it was ok to mace you (I didn't actually get you but I considered it which is just as bad!)

Big thanks to James and Allan for delivering breaky this morning, I don't think I would've moved otherwise. :P

The convoy home was fun, normally there arn't as many cars as we had today.

No probs Bris about rushing out.

Oh and Gadget - Can't wait to see the results, i'll put $50 on me losing!

Great pics Tharaka and Paul , thanks both of you

Evo brakes need replacing all round in the coming days so was trying to get the last of the life out of them as the discs are too scored to be machined.

Juz - no probs, can't believe we didnt bring you coffee though of all things, will make note of that for the next time as I am sure there will be one! :P

LOL! Anyone would think Bris was the victim! Damn it was worth it to see the President having such a good time and especially at his rival President's expense

Out of interest on the tracks, maybe people should provide feedback on the layouts, those who have done previous DECA's. Being a lot more technical, they chewed through the time quicker either as a result of cones being knocked over, slower times or like me, having to do 3 point turns! I personally think Evo sabotage was to blame! :P

My thoughts, I really liked the technical stuff both in the morning and afternoon but would probably prefer a combination. Perhaps technical stuff before lunch when you are fresher and some wider stuff in the afternoon.

Tops day though all round

I definately are coming to Tuesday's meeting.

I found that the courses in the afternoon where difficult in the holden taxi, as I had to be absolutely spot on with placing the car, and even then, due to cones being hit and replaced in slightly different spots, I needed to stop and backup a couple of times just to get through.

    • It's weird to me that you say this because I'm pretty sure locals with relatively standard standalone tunes (boost/barometric compensated alpha-N) still have driveability issues when they pop intercooler hoses. Maybe with enough data I can just train some kind of model that spits out an expected grams/cyl given every sensor input except MAF like what FCA did with their Pentastar 3.6 ECU logic. Basically stock everything. The main motivation honestly is to have a sensor that can be a decent baseline source of truth. In scenarios you're describing obviously it won't work every time but it seems to me the number of corner cases that exist in MAF load is maybe not as severe and difficult to manage vs ITB alpha-N with some MAP/barometric compensation.
    • What are your plans for your blow off valves? Purely plumb back? How soft will the spring in them be? AFM can be tricky to get super smooth and nice, especially depending on the rest of the system, and then can be very easily upset if something slightly changes. IE, even if you run recirc blow off valves, you could still see issues getting it to behave at certain load points as turbos might start to spool, but you release the throttle but it's not enough pressure to crack the bov open to recirc, and you can end up with reversion which can cause double metering, and hence dumping of fuel into the system, and stalling the engine.   If you're going to run a map sensor for closed loop boost control from the ECU, what makes you want to keep the AFM?
    • It's not bad, it's just not flexible. And say if you have any leaks between the MAF and plenum, well then your load axis goes out the window. Here's a real world scenario, I blew off an intercooler hose last track day, as the clamp decided to Bluetooth itself somewhere. Still continued to do 2 laps and drive it to the pub for a couple of beers then home. Good luck doing that with a MAF setup
    • Is MAF load really that bad? I'm not trying to do big power, my only real desire is VCAM and flex fuel support so I'm not terrified of blowing my engine apart from CA's appalling 95 RON "premium" fuel. Stuff like playing with closed loop boost control and really dialing in my transient fueling and ignition are frankly just to prove to myself I remembered something from uni.
    • Thats what ive been doing. Ive got a million questions but i know theyve probably all been answered before at some stage. Todays research included nismo heritage seat covers, s3 projector headlight retrofits and how to remove/paint the rocker covers
