Cubes
A straight through pipe doesn't really make it that much louder now drone in the cabin (unless the exhaust is prone to do so anyway) just a tad deeper and gruntier sounding. A well setup exhaust shouldn't drone in the cabin full stop. Sumo
Bear in mind one of the most restrictions in an exhaust is the catalytic converter aka cat!!! I would nearly put my money on a turbo being a bigger restriction. WazR32GTSt
How about you just do the right thing and buy a new cat...Think of the environment. Think of the cancer growing in your lungs from breathing in your un-catalysed exhaust gasses. Is it worth it all just for gaining a few kW? those kind of emmissions won't cause lung cancer... not in short-term exposure anyway lung disease, yes (eg lung fibrosis) you'd have to be breathing in funes everyday for years to be at risk there honestly, i did this to my car before i got a high-flow cat and i noticed no increase in exhaust note, and no difference in power at all! so it begs the question, why bother? Cubes
lol yours is insane... Throw a center resonator in the middle and it should shut it up a little. I'll soon be throwing a center muffler in. Hopefully shuts it up a touch. BAMR33
Going back to the original question why would you go to all the effort of putting a straight pipe through the cat? its pointless, if a cop pulls you over its usually due to the smell or noise and then they'll send you to the transport department. There are performance gains from a straight through pipe, but its not worth it on your daily driver. letemlaf
My car has a decent high flow cat but since i installed a power fc and had it tuned it is running quiet rich and i always get pops through my exhaust, sometimes very loud ones. will this destroy my cat pretty quickly? fEkuaR
i have a 3" pipe inside my cat, quite a noticeable difference in both noise and performance, definitely do it! whats ya number plate Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143837-whos-jammed-a-3inch-pipe-straight-through-there-gutted-cat/page/2/#findComment-2691870 Share on other sites
mr_rbman
if u get told to go to the transport authority just replace it with a hi flo cat, its not rocket science! johnGTS-t
yeh they might look like a cat but if ya blowing flames out the exhaust they might be a bit suss about that ive have a stock r32 im running on the track. ive gutted the cat and taken the rear muffler off. will i blow flames?? if so, cool!!! and will i notice much difference without it? i havent tried it yet, have to wait till next weekend. i will have a 3'' system on it by feb next year but for now its honkin ok. SKY 34
get a small body 3" cat..abt $160+ then shove the pipe thru...otherwise the smaller size of stock cat will restrict flow...no point Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143837-whos-jammed-a-3inch-pipe-straight-through-there-gutted-cat/page/2/#findComment-2697643 Share on other sites
NickR33
there is almost no difference between a 'highflow' cat and a straight through pipe in terms of performance... I know because the 2 bolts holding my cat to the front pipe came out last week and I was driving around for a few days with no muffling of any kind... the noise was deafening and sounded like crap below 3000rpm... I was even turning the ignition off at light because I was so ashamed... now its fixed the performance difference is hardly noticable and that is with a cat, resonator and muffler bolted back on... so just get a proper cat and do everyone a favour Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143837-whos-jammed-a-3inch-pipe-straight-through-there-gutted-cat/page/2/#findComment-2697663 Share on other sites
johnGTS-t
i wont be running a cat of any sort. its a race car Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143837-whos-jammed-a-3inch-pipe-straight-through-there-gutted-cat/page/2/#findComment-2698321 Share on other sites
-_-StRyDeR-_-
kinda sounds like you were going to gut your cat no matter what these guys have said? :S the gutted cats iv heard sound hollow n a bad sound as if they have big exhuast leaks... CJ ps, i must be a lazy cu*t, i sit in maccas drivethrough for 1hr!! (yeh right) Ive got a black car so it won't look that different. It will fit you just have to cut the cat housing a bit. As for cancer and contributing to the death of the environment.. you guys are funny.I think it evens out for me acually, i ride to work and catch the train to uni so i only drive my rig on the weekends which is alot better for the environment. The lazy cu*ts who drive everywhere and would rather sit for 1hr in macas drive through than walk into the place and be in and out in 5 mins are the ones you guys should be angry at. cheers. 685
thats why you dont gutter em, get 3" straight pipe made up..only costs like 50bux if that, and u get lotza grunt. noticed bit of power gain, but not worth for the 10k fine frm epa my 2 cents Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/143837-whos-jammed-a-3inch-pipe-straight-through-there-gutted-cat/page/2/#findComment-2753029 Share on other sites
