R33 Gts + Turbo (not A Gtst) On P's?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have a N/A R33 GTS which is pretty much stock apart from a 3" catback exhaust.

What are the legal ramifications of adding a turbo to my car? It would technically not be a GTSt, but a GTS with engine modifications..

I am new to the modifications scene, and would like to know how it all works here in Vic. What am I required to do if i were to turbo my car. Am i required to get any form of engineers certificates? Am I required to fill out any forms?

I am not planning on going overboard, and as far as i can tell, pretty much all of my mods would be "legal" (for example while I would be using a FMIC i would keep the stock panel filter rather than a Pod, etc). Please correct me if i am mistaken here though.

Would I be allowed to drive this car on my P's with a turbo fitted? I don't want to get it all converted and then get barred from driving the thing due to power/weight restrictions or getting a canary :)

I know most people will probably tell me to just sell the GTS and buy a GTSt, but there are two problems with that: firstly, I can't legally drive a R33 GTSt on P's, as it is more than 125kw/tonne. secondly, I already have my GTS and would love the learning experience of doing the work myself to turbo it.

If anyone knows the official rules or can point me to somewhere that i can find it out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Sam.

In a word no.

Doesnt matter if its na, if you convert it to a turbo you cant drive it, not to mention its not worth it because u have to engineer it and upgrade everything else.

NO NO NO NO NO

yeah you have to get it engineer'd and cert'd but technically it is ok as the rule does state based on factory output and you car would be well under. it just happens that now it makes more power, but the rule is flywheel power not rear wheel power as well, so they would only know if they engine dyno'd your engine, which of course they wouldnt. but yeah they will find some way to make u revert it, or send u to the epa, which it will then fail as its a gtst now etc...
