Ive just had my car retuned and is now making close to 400rwkw. I raced it at the drags here in Tassie on Saturday and smashed 3rd gear. What would be the best option for me now. Auto or manual. I dont mind spending $$$$s aslong as i can get something strong. Boost comes on real hard at about 6000rpm and with the manual it comes off boost when changing gears. What ratios are the standard 33 gts-t box???

r33 ratios

1st - 3.2

2nd - 1.9

3rd - 1.3

4th - 1.0

5th - 0.75

if you were just interested in quarter mile times go the auto, if you like to throw some track days, sprints, mount climbs in then stick with the manual... helical cut dog box, close ratio..... check out ppg

Holy jebus thats some horrid lag for only 400rwkw... :P

I take it its a drag only car?

Because you couldnt realistically run that on the circuit..

So... Its auto/transbrake setup for you dude with response like that.

Cost you around 4-5k for box to be built + installation, i dare say it'll have you be sent over to Vic (the auto) and built by a good place over here

cheers

Its still only a 2.5 and will be used on the street all the time. I wanted something different and wanted more power so i changed to this from the old TD06 setup. The engine internals are still unknown as to whats standard and whats not. I want to see how far you can go with a 2.5 before i built a 3lt bottom end.

Street all the time? hmm...

Im afraid no gearbox will really "help" you for a street application. You only have 2000 RPM that your actually on reasonable boost.

An auto will possibly be better, really depends on gear ratio's and what not, im not expert there so i wont buy into that one :)

2000rpm power band really doesnt give a lot to work with dude, even then, the power figure is probably over stated by around 30rwkw, if not more.

Manual/Auto, whichever it is you wont (IMO) stop the "drop off boost" that you have now... short of using some nitrous to bring it all on earlier.

Maybe cams & an agressive tune might help, but its going to take a lot of time and R&D to get it working any earlier.

I suggest ring around some places in Vic that build auto's and see what they can offer.

Be sure to tell them the setup.

Should have chosen a t04z :(

Least you would have boost arond 5000rpm for the same power.

The car was tuned in Tassie and was a pretty cold morning. It was on the dyno for about 3 hrs and did 30+ runs. The cams are Tomei not sure what sive and the gears are still set on zero. I will try changing them next time.

As for the T04z thats what everyone else is doing. How mant twin turbo 2.5 are getting around???
