wont do a imported (EG EBAY) 791 as tehy are b stock. they can not be done to black wies and the Oz stds is a bit more than just colours. its also about design an that one will not pass. 288RLI (autowatch) was recommended for that reason depsite cost.

Yeah i know to stay clear of the imported Ebay ones, George (APS) has warned me off.

Just wondering if there is a way to open the unit and re-solder new black wires, and to run a second point of immobilisation.

Do you simply understand the magnitude of what you are asking? You are expecting an installer from Autobarn or Tonkins to re engineer an alarm which has already been built in a factory with certain connections and then you want trouble free usage. We all have visions of grandeur but whether or not it can be executed is a different thing alltogether.

At the end of day, I can do what you want but are you willing to pay me $85 an hour labour for as long as it takes to achieve this result? If you dont want to pay someone why not try it yourself and then see if it is as easy as you think.

I mean if i were to come to you and ask you can you give me a computer which will vacuum my house, mow my lawns and wash dishes would you be able to do it? I mean its easy why cant you just run different wires into different plugs and get it to do what i want? There has gotta be a way only because i thought of it.

Dont mean to be rude but car audio retailers DONT MAKE THE ALARMS they sell and install only.

I'd spoken to some car owners who have Viper alarms, and there are some positives which influence my decision over an AutoWatch alarm.

I dont want an alarm re-engineered (isnt that what you guys did with Howies viper - reprogrammed a chip?), just wondering if it was possible to replace the wires to it. I have seen that it is a plug-in harness, and thought it might be possible to use a small screwdriver and unclick the wires, then use the small crimpers on some black wire, and click them back in... I havent had a harness plug in my hand, so don't know if this is possible.

You boys are playing with wire all day long, and definatly have the skills to do this (as long as its not a fancy moulded plug). I thought an installer may offer a black wire upgrade as an add on sale. Then again... you guys dont like to touch these alarms which dont offer the best security (which is understandable!)

I am simply stating, that as easy as it sounds to you it is not easy when you start mucking around with a manufactured product, it voids warranty.

Id be willing to have a go but i want $85 an hour labour rates.

As i stated and Howie knows this very well that it was a simple installation instruction error which needed three installers to sort out due to the fact that i dont install Viper alarms. In the end it got sorted but it cost me three days worth of labour.

The Viper will never ever in my book offer the same amount of security as an Autowatch, you are talking an asian made alarm against an alarm tested in a military base in SOUTH AFRICA which has the highest security standards in the world.

A Viper simply offers more wank features to attract customers.

Going from coloured wires to Black wires on a Viper will not make it a better alarm, this is what Chris tried to explain.

oh boy APS is here now... this should be fun.

in regad to HOWIE, the programmer I had there that day was merely to set a few options. they all have this method of programming and I CBF doing it via the valet switch (another thing that the Oz stds items DO NOT HAVE!). there was no fancy reworking on the unit.

also there is not such a thing as a blackwire upsell. to do it would require me to buy 100k each of 6 different style pins. now a had a EBAY guy approach me a fair while back TRYING to get me to do them in black wires- I simply said no.

at teh end of the day its up to you what you put on the car. but when it gets stolen due to poor product/installation only then will you realise that saving the $50 or so (per say) for the easy way out really wasn't worth it.

hell if you pay the $200 ticket to adelaide I'll do the alarm in the APS shop!

your call.

rekin,

I'll be putting one on the new car I get so that should say something :)

I wish. I fit audio and debug other peoples F'ups all day long. pinning harneses is an assembly line job and not what I i do for a living. in my case I built my reputation on doing car security properly and thats why I only install proper alarms that are meant for car security not vehicle enhancment.

if you are dead set on viper look up a 480XV or a 460XV. the first has 2 way paging the second is a remote fob. they are thatcham approved (UK standard.) and emulate a Oz stds item quite well.

So $200 for a plane ticket, and how much per hour to install a viper in my 33?.......

$99/ hr at a 4 hr mininum , 7 hr maximum

you wnat it done tell me now and I'll allocate the time off.. (and no I am not kidding on price or job..)

now a 791 costs just under $1k from a dealer fitted.. you do the math.

sorry to hijack but i've got a VIPER 791XV in my car at the moment.. would i be able to hook up the m80 to the viper? would that improve my security or waste of time and money?

WOFTAM. remove the 791. surprised the insurance company insured it.
