There is a workshop real close to JSA, like 4mins down the road, cant remember its name but they quoted $150~ for a full inspection. Maybe someone living around Bell Street knows the name of the workshop?

JSA tends to sell cars a few grand above their average price, but it may have changed now

Another helpful tip, never trust the dealers :D

Two dealers told me accident free, but inspection stated otherwise. So dont skimp on the pre-inspection!

everyones help is great. Is importing better than a car yard or im i just as likely to have troubles

There is little difference in price wise between importing and caryard imo.

Importing says $11k~ for a r32 and most dealers sell at 11-13k.

Although with dealer you can test drive, take pre-inspection, haggle free warranty/rego/rwc/lower price and have the car on the roads in a weeks time. As opposed to importing which takes half a year.

If you find a decent car at a car yard, there shouldnt be much difference with importing one. I found my car forsale on prestigemotorsport after i purchased it from a compliancer, he only increased price by $1000.

cheers

Why not private sale? will get it a few $$ cheaper and chances are if he is a fussy owner MOST of the problems will have been sorted out. Unlike a dealer who just import the cars and sell them on as quickly as possible buy hiding the problems.

That my 2c

Private sale = no warranty

Yep - warranty is important i reckon. My car had waterpump and welsh plug issues. Warranty took care of that. Think of it as a safety net, because we dont know what the car had been up to in japan.

Private sale = no warranty

Warranty that does not cover anything = waste of money

I bought my car with "3 year full warranty"

It covered Engine (up to $1500 or something), Gearbox ($1000) turbo $500 and thats about it.

The warranty was ONLY valid if the car "was not modified from manufacture specifications"

I bought the car with a few mods on it, and when i had problems the warranty wouldnt cover any of it because the car was not stock.

The fact that the dealer modified the car before it was transported to me did not matter, they actually void the warranty before I got the car. The dealership does not actually offer the warranty they "buy" it from someone else, an external company.

Read the fine print carefully with warranty, it may seem like "fool proof" cover, but you will find that a LOT of the time they wont cover much at all, and it is VERY easy to void.

When you buy a car "as is", you sign paperwork to that effect.

If you sign the paperwork, and agree to their terms without reading what you sign, it's not their fault, in fact, that's what they're hoping people will do.

Even brand new cars straight out of the showroom have problems with them.

The first car I purchased privately blew a head gasket 3 days after I got it.

I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to buy privately again.

I've since purchased 2 vehicles from 2 different dealers, and both were happy to accomodate my requests to have certain things fixed/changed prior to me taking delivery of the vehicle.

If I asked for these things to be fixed, then picked the car up without checking that it had been done, who's fault would it be?

A certain amount of responsibility falls on the buyer.

If you don't know what you're buying, get an independent inspection.

Take it from a car Dealer, Warranty is pointless.

Just make sure you have an indapendant inspection done from anyone other than RACV. (they are tools) If you get it inspected then you know what you are buying, If the person or company wont let it be inspected (within reason, ive had people try to get me to take the car to places over 1 hours drive away, not gonna happen) then walk away as they are hiding something. This is the beauty of buying cars that are already here in Australia.

Does anyone know anything about SEI. I know its all probly just personal oppinion but i cant really stuff up this time or my dad will kill me.

bought my 33 dead standard from sei. if your gunna go there talk to john, if he is busy wait for him cause his partner is a pushy over the top dodgy barstard! and he cant even speak clear english!

some cars are nice and clean and others you wouldnt even look twice at.

jay ess ayy= stayy away lol

id like to just thank everyone for there help have learnt a fair bit will definately be gettin checked out by a mechanic and if its all ok ill finally be an owner of a 32. As well are there any things i should do once i get it back to Tassie. Im defiantly going to do water pump and timing belt and change all oils and fuel filter but besides that is there anything else i should do. i just think if i cover possible problems then i can avoid them. cheers once again.

If the AC aint working, dont listen to the dealers excuse. Take car to an ac workshop and let them have a free inspection + quote.

Pre-inspection at mechanic said AC not work, but didnt have an answer as to why it didnt work. Thought it was due to no gas...

Only needs gas says the seller, turns out i need a new compressor :P

Joys of the r32.

Good luck

Stay away from SEI if you actually value your hard earned money. Ive dealt with them myself last year, and glad I walked away not buying the car after I did RACV inspection on it which was an oily rust bucket and John claimed hi fixed all the problems, I did the second RACV test and it came back with the exact same problems. They force their dodgy cars on you too.

Go see SSV in Hungtingdale, they are awesome people, dont push their cars onto you.
