Medium Dave
Hey all, I just managed to get my car running really nicely, now after driving for about half an hour over the mountain I turned around at the bottom to go home and then on boost there was a slightly demented whistling noise that increases with more boost, like there is air excaping under the pressure. I have checked all the hoses and they are tight. I went for another drive and the whistle seemed to flutter when I went over a bumpy section of road, could this be the standard bov giving up? or could it be something else? -I had a turbo die rercently, and it sounds different, oh and I am running standard boost, any ideas much appreciated Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/144229-whistling-noise-on-boost/ Share on other sites
Dale FZ1
Double check ALL hose clamps. I had a similar experience. The clamps SEEMED to be firm, but after replacing the joiner hoses some months ago there was evidently some compression of the rubber that decreased the effective clamping pressure. Another half-turn on the clamps cured it. Not coincidentally, I noticed the noise increasing when I bumped up boost from 10 - 14psi and began developing the fuel map to suit. Medium Dave
Thanks Dale, I will take them all apart tonight, clean them up and re-assemble Edit: Fixed, it was the turbo - the bolts attatching it to the manifold were a little loose, thanks guys Edited November 23, 2006 by Medium Dave Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/144229-whistling-noise-on-boost/#findComment-2693739 Share on other sites
Mr Italy!
Yeah mine has a nasty whistle on boost too - could be turbo dying, could be BOV leaking, could be pipes leaking... izataskyrine?
ahh dont turbo's normally whistle? every turbo car ive been in with a pod filter you can hear induction noise (whistling) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/144229-whistling-noise-on-boost/#findComment-2694124 Share on other sites
Willo
Check your turbo gaskets. My 33 GTR had a whistle on boost and it turned out to be a dodgy gasket. Nabil
Yep, same problem with my R33. Took off the turbo last Friday for an upgrade and i realised the rectangular gasket from the collector to the turbo had may deep cracks in it. Must of had one more thrashing in it left before it leaked constantly. Chris_R33GTSt
Hi, my series 2 33 GTST has been developing the same problem. It makes a harsh screech as it comes on to boost (It does have a massive Blitz pod filter). I always thought that is was due to the nylon compressor wheel. If I was to do the gasket off the manifold to the turbo, would there be any other gaskets that would or should require replacement? Cheers, Chris. (B1) MR_fanny
yeah im pretty sure its the turbo/dump gasket. had a dodgy front pipe installed before with a leak that created the whistle sound. installed a proper dump pipe and the noise went away. scraped my cat on a speed bump which must have losened the joints and the whistle is back. gonna have to re-tighten the dump again when im free. recce
I have the same problem too. Have a look at the exahust manifold and found 1 loose nut. Tru to tighten it but it would not tighten up. So I try the next one, same. Cannot tighten up. Does any of yours have the same problem?
