At the moment i currently dont have any seat covers for my car but im wanting to get some. Is it possible for me to go buy some plain black throw over seat covers and screen print or get imbroded the SAU logo?

is this allowed or will i be breaching copy right laws or any thing like that?

or has sau alrdy got somethen made for the club in the seat cover department?

firstly you need to check if the sau logo is copyrighted. if it isn't then it is fine to do.

otherwise you need to make it visibly different to the sau logo. if you change bits around and change the colour that may be enough to get away with it.

i looked into this a bit a while ago when a shop in town opened up selling fake west coast chopper clothing (and i am the authorised dealer in town for it). i went and asked them if it was genuine and they said it was made by someone with a licence to make it. when i rang my supplier they said that the only company with the licence to make them was the company they got them off, as it was part of their contract that they only bought them off the head company.

but i did some research into how different things must be to not be causght for counterfiet. it must be easily distinguishable between the fake and the original. and it must be easy to tell which is the fake (like by spelling the name completely different).

but you are best off contacting one of the moderators of the forum.

I actually PM'd Karen aka SMR33 about this earlier this year with a couple of examples I had made up. Karen said it was fine, I think I still have the PM from her but as things go never actually got around to getting a set made up. Will be looking into again soon though

why not get a GTS logo or a nissan logo instead of SAU?

i have a nissan logo embossed into my seat covers, and it looks much classier as it has relevance to the everyday person, not just the people who know what SAU is...

that's like having initial D seatcovers

If the logo is trademarked then it is owned by someone. You can search the trademark database on line.

I think if you asked the 'owner' of the logo (a moderator probably knows who that is) to make yourself a seat cover you would think they would probably say yes for a one off for personal use. As long as you have permission you would be right. Saves the trouble of making a similar logo etc when all you want is a seat cover.

First of all, thankyou to Reggi and Destero for approaching us before using the name, it's greatly appreciated

seriously is everyone really concerned on the legalities of this?

Not really, we're pretty easy going, but we do have to protect what is effectively a major part of our public presence.

If all you're doing is making some seat covers for yourself, go for it. Distribution, profit, or use of the name/logos in a way that devalues them are no-no's.

If there's enough interest in seat covers we could be convinced to offer our own for sale, with the buying power of 100-ish members we may be able to get them to you cheaper :(

I can't vouch for the Skylines Australia/www.skylinesaustralia.com etc names, you'll have to contact Christian (PranK) to clarify.
