Bloody Hicas!

i just boosted to 12 pounds the other day and now whenver im on the freeway or trvelling over 10 kms my hicas light will always light up...does that mean i need power steering fluid or is it just the electrics? thanks for anyones help

u will probably need to run the diagnostic.... do a search in here or the performance/maintenance forums and see what u come up with

I had the same problem, so i opened the power steering fluid, made sure the filter on the stick was clean/not impeeded, swirled the fluid with the stick, and gave it a top up. No light anymore. give it a try. Would not have anything to do with boost.

thanks red32 yea i had a feeling it would be the fluid just topped it up today and so far so good!

Screw the diagnostics...Remove the hicas altogether...I promise you the cars handling will astound you without it...If you are intereseted I can supply a rear replacement bar out of chromoly for a very reasonable price...You can have a look at my car at some stage if you like.

One of the best things you could do for your handling.

does locking the hicas make it easier to control in a drift? also is it stiffer when sliding or trying to get it out sideways?

It just makes the car more predictable...along with dialling out most of the dreadful understeer the standard skyline was born with. I assume it would make it easier to control drift due to the increased predictability etc, Much more direct too.

hmmmm sounds good, do u make a bar that replaces the hicas steering rack do u? also ive got a r31 so it needs to fir that

haven't seen the r31 ones before but they are very easy to make, Have to have a look and a measure...thats all. Is it hydraulic like the r32?? I also took out the lines and capped the pump up the front....It never shows as an error etc and the fluid just circulates around like normal....

BAH your joking!!! I love the HICAS in my brothers car. It's handling is insane. No good for Drift but for curcuit racing it would be insane. I love taking his car round long tight corners. Keep your hicas if you gonna go to the curcuit.

Only because it masks inherent problems, like chronic understeer...once you set it up and have the hicas removed it is much faster around the track...

Also much less weight and less to go wrong..I know its small differences but it all adds up. The car feels much more direct and respnsive to throttle steer without hicas.

Anyway, each to their own...Just make sure you drive both before you finally make up your mind.

I would suggest if you are happy with your car then leave it as it is...if you are not then you need to decide how you drive...do you drive hard..not so hard?? What other suspension mods do you have or are you prepared to do...

Talk to other people who have and those who have not and see what they have to say...read these forums...heaps of threads with people who have problems with hicas..one thing is for sure no hicas is no worse.
